I stayed at the Tara for one night on my driving tour of Donegal. It is a perfectly nice hotel. Clean rooms with some of the modern ammenities that can be hard to find in Ireland. The windows, however, didn't open fully (child proof?) and the room was very warm even though it wasn't warm outside. My traveling companion had trouble sleeping. It is a business person's hotel lacking the charm of the smaller hotels and B&B's. Finally, the town of Killybegs is not one that I would reccomend for a tourist. With so many beautiful and quaint towns nearby, it was a shame to spend the night in Killybegs. I would reccomend Ardara or Glenties as alternatives. (also very expensive)

A colleague and I stayed at the hotel on business. It was a warm evening and we decided not to eat in the hotel, but go for a short walk to a near by restaurant. The rooms we stayed in were fantastic. They opened up onto a shared balcony where we had a few beers looking over the sea front. The en-suite bathrooms were small, but rather luxurious. There was a speaker built into the bathroom ceiling so you could listen to the tv. I really want one of those at home now! The rooms were so clean you would feel like you were the 1st person to stay in it. If you have a laptop, broadband internet is available in rooms which was useful for me. The few members of staff I had contact with weren't overly friendly, but efficient. Everything else in the hotel makes up for this.

We stayed at the Tara hotel in April 2006. There was a slight delay at check in as the details of our on-line booking did not match the rooms allocated to us, but this was quickly resolved. We had two lovely rooms, one with a small private balcony and one with access out onto a shared terrace with a sea view. Rooms comfortable & warm with good mirrors and hanging space. General public areas were clean and pleasant. Bar was very nice - large screen TV's to watch sport - staff helpful & seated us in armchairs to watch the match of our choice . Overall atmosphere in the bar pleasant, peaceful & open. Love the no smoking law.
Breakfast nice - all freshly cooked. Dinner the same - lovely fresh vegetables perfectly cooked. Restaurant staff pleasant.
All in all a great place to stay for touring southern Donegal - we got a great online deal. would definitely go back.

Have just returned from a visit to Belfast, where we were visiting our daughter and her family. Took a trip to Co. Donegal where we stayed at the Tara. We can thoroughly recommend the accomodation and the friendly staff.
The food was freshly cooked and the menus were varied.
We will not hesitate to stay there again
