We can't say enough good things about the wonderful stay our group of 5 had this past summer for 3 nights with Ethna Diver at Inishduff House in Kilcar, near Killybegs and Donegal Town on the southern County Donegal coastline. This was our 5th trip to Ireland, and by far, this is the warmest, friendliest care we have ever experienced. From the enthusiastic greeting at arrival, to the wine and snacks after we checked in, to the cheery greeting every morning, the relaxed conversation in the afternoons, great tips about what to see in the area, and the "welcome home" each evening, and, finally, waving at us until we rounded the corner driving away after check-out, you will never get better treatment than staying at Inishduff House.
The location is great, too. The house is on a bluff looking across the road at Donegal Bay to Ben Bulben and the Sligo coastline across the water. It's easy to reach approaching Kilcar from driving west along the coast from Donegal Town via Killybegs. Ethna recommended 3 restaurants all within 5 minutes driving distance (including one right next door) and we had excellent dinners in all of them, especially Kitty Kelly's. The rooms were comfortable, and the front ones face the waterfront. Ethna is a fascinating person who seems to know everyone and everything about County Donegal. Plus, she is a gourmet chef, having trained at the top culinary school in Ireland, so her breakfasts are a real treat, and you might even be able to arrange a dinner prepared by her, too.
Inishduff House is convenient to Donegal Town, Killybegs, Kilcar, Glencolumbkille, and Ardara, and we made it up to Crolly and the Glenveagh National Park and back on a day trip.
If you stay there, please say "hi" to Ethna from her friends, Pat and MIke, in Illinois, and we guarantee you'll have the warmest, friendliest stay you can find in Ireland or anywhere.
