We can't say enough good things about the wonderful stay our group of 5 had this past summer for 3 nights with Ethna Diver at Inishduff House in Kilcar, near Killybegs and Donegal Town on the southern County Donegal coastline. This was our 5th trip to Ireland, and by far, this is the warmest, friendliest care we have ever experienced. From the enthusiastic greeting at arrival, to the wine and snacks after we checked in, to the cheery greeting every morning, the relaxed conversation in the afternoons, great tips about what to see in the area, and the "welcome home" each evening, and, finally, waving at us until we rounded the corner driving away after check-out, you will never get better treatment than staying at Inishduff House.

The location is great, too. The house is on a bluff looking across the road at Donegal Bay to Ben Bulben and the Sligo coastline across the water. It's easy to reach approaching Kilcar from driving west along the coast from Donegal Town via Killybegs. Ethna recommended 3 restaurants all within 5 minutes driving distance (including one right next door) and we had excellent dinners in all of them, especially Kitty Kelly's. The rooms were comfortable, and the front ones face the waterfront. Ethna is a fascinating person who seems to know everyone and everything about County Donegal. Plus, she is a gourmet chef, having trained at the top culinary school in Ireland, so her breakfasts are a real treat, and you might even be able to arrange a dinner prepared by her, too.

Inishduff House is convenient to Donegal Town, Killybegs, Kilcar, Glencolumbkille, and Ardara, and we made it up to Crolly and the Glenveagh National Park and back on a day trip.

If you stay there, please say "hi" to Ethna from her friends, Pat and MIke, in Illinois, and we guarantee you'll have the warmest, friendliest stay you can find in Ireland or anywhere.

From our first contact with Ethna at Inishduff when making a booking, we felt we had made a good choice. We stayed for a week (July 2006) and, unusually for me, I had tears in my eyes when we had to leave! It was a joy to return to Inishduff at the end of each day and be welcomed by Ethna with a warm smile and the offer of tea! The breakfasts were a delight. Our bedroom was at the front of the house and it was larger than normal for a guest house. Our bed linen was changed every other day and new towels were supplied every day. Ethna kindly phoned a couple of local restuarants to book tables for us on a couple of occasions and, as strangers to the area, she recommended some places to visit.

Inishduff House is cosy and comfortable, but Ethna herself is one great lady who works very hard to make her guests feel at home. You arrive as a stranger but leave as a friend. I wish there were more places like this.

We hope to return one day - thank you, Ethna!

After reading all the comments about the excellence of Inishduff House and Ethna, my husband and I were not sure that they could live up to the hype. However, we were positively impressed with everything during our stay. Ethna is of course a lovely hostess who really does make an effort to get to know her guests. The house is in excellent condition, especially considering all the people who are in and out of it each day. Our room was lovely and spacious, and everything was sparkling clean. The location and view are unsurpassed and completely worth the drive! I would recommend this place to anyone!!

Ethna's hospitality was exceptional with genuine concern for our happiness! The breakfast was outstanding and tasty with many choices.

Unfortunately we found the room a little spartan. There was mold in the shower and sink, and the bed was not very comfortable.

The view was beautiful and the Donegal Peninsula is sure worth seeing. Be sure to drive out a see the "cliffs"!

We also really enjoyed our lunch and dinner next door at the Blue Haven!

Ethna's personalty makes up for most to the shortcomings and all of her other reviews and more positive than mine . . . either they had a more comfortable room or were won over by Ethna's charm!

It still appear this must be the best place to stay in the area?
