“previous person must have urinated on the bed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2014

When we went to go to bed at 2am after a function we found that when we loosened the sheets they were wet where they were tucked under the mattress. It stank of urine. We tried to phone down to reception but our phone did not work (room 230) Also there must be some serious issue with the heating as we ran our AC multiple times but were there was no heat from it. We were not alone in this and many of the other guests had indicated that they were either roasted or freezing...most cold. some people did not run the AC so that may be the issue with them but we did. It also times out after some length of time. The bridal suite also had serious issues with temperature on that night and they asked to be moved to another room

We also found that after we moved from the bar to the lounge to await the normal closure of the bar (kick out the non residents) we were told that we could move back in to the bar. The lounge was freezing and we waited 45 min in the lounge for service. We were then told that they would not be opening up the bar again and they would serve us in the lounge. We pointed out that it was freezing there but the only solution was to plug in the storage heater that was 20ft away.

I was married in this hotel and I have good memories of the place. I know that the hotel is probably in NAMA but really standards are slipping.

in summary the cold is an issue but the urination on a bed to be recycled into general use when the hotel was not at full occupancy means that the cleaners must be used to this kind of carry on and may be instructed to flip the beds as quick as possible. I reported all of the above to the receptionist

Room Tip: do ask about functions if you plan an early night as sound does travel in the hotel.

Had a brilliant Night at the Oriel- Great Service to almost 200 people. Dinner Fab Function Room Lovely. There was also a wedding on there at the same time so they could have almost been forgiven if things were not quite 100% but it was 101% well Done

We had the pleasure of having a New Years Eve dinner here in the bar. It was fabulous. The service and food was to a very high standard and given how busy it was, all the orders were perfect. The Seafood Chowder was the best I've had and the soda bread served with it was so yummy I asked for more! All steaks ordered at the table were cooked to perfection, and I really loved the sauce they were served with. I would highly recommend the bar for food if your in the area. Keep up the good work, can't wait to go back again soon!

The only negative was the Baby changing Room was pretty dirty, and needs a good scrub!

I have stayed in this hotel many times on business, if you are working with a company in Ballincollig the location couldn't be better. The rooms are classicly styled with a slightly aged look. The Sports Centre and Pool is palatial! The bar is also good to relax in.

The main problem with the hotel is the lack of investment, meaning whether your room is great or a disappointment is based on chance. Definitely enquire as to weather the have any upgrades to their suites available, which are huge!

I would stay here again, but many people are choosing to commute in form the city which offers more modern hotels.

Thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback. Great to see you are a regular client of the hotel. The Oriel House Hotel is a lovely mix of the old and new style decor - whilst all our rooms are to a deluxe standard we have kept some of them in line with the georgian age of the building. Some soft refurbs are being completed at moment in our bedrooms and public areas. Look forward to meeting you on your next visit to Oriel House Hotel Leisure Club and Spa.

Stayed here with a few mates for a wedding and was not dissapointed. The staff were friendly and the rooms were very comfortable.
Nice and close to the local shopping centre should you fancy a bit of retail therapy!

Pleasantly surprised with this hotel, very helpful check in, stayed on 29th Dec for 1 night on a pigsback.com deal, bedroom was a good size, the only downfall was it was 2 single beds attached together which gives a groove in the middle of the bed, underfloor heating in the bathroom was a nice touch, a/c to use at your leisure, flat screen tv, fridge, iron & ironing board, tea & coffee facilities all in room. Breakfast was buffet style, plenty of everything,b cereals, fruit, pastries, sausage, egg, rashers, pudding, nice view from the restaurant where the breakfast was served. Would recommend to friends.

Room Tip: if you want a quiet room, ask for room overlooking the day care centre next door

I have stayed here several times. The rooms are clean and reasonably kept. The hotel staff are friendly. Good breakfast. There is a very busy bar which serves decent pub food. It can be difficult to get parking particularly in the underground parking if it is lashing ran which is not uncommon. I would stay here again if inCork. The only criticism I have is your hotel room may be near the wedding festivities/parties which can be pretty out of control and loud at times. Local attractions worth visiting are Fota park, FItzgerald Park/Mardyke
