good location, right in front of the geysers with a wide window, the restaurant offers good and fresh meals.
lamp and salmon were on the menu and it was a real pleasure to them.
the hotel is in fact a bunch of bengalo, unusual when you first come in, but very comfortable after the first night.
you also can cook a little something in the small kitchen.
for those who need to keep their swing tuned, there is a correct golf course just a block away.
only bad point, the swimming pool was empty when we arrive. i guess we could cope without it.

Dear Samleterrible,

Thank you so much for your review, we are so glad that you had a nice time with us at Geysir.
Sorry about the swimming pool, few days over the summer we empty it completely and deep clean it, but the hot tubs are always open.

Hope we see you again and best regards from Geysir!

The hotel is easy to get to, being on the main tourist route with its adjacent hot springs and Gullfoss not far down the road and in the late morning / afternoon gets extremely busy with coach parties arriving in what feels like every few minutes. As is to be expected there's a very touristy element to it all, a large gift shop filled with the usual tourist stuff, and a cafe. The cafe serves a limited range of hot food - burgers, fish nuggets, fries, spring rolls etc, but be aware that although open until later, they stop cooking at 7pm after which, once the burgers etc run out, the only hot option is the soup (the lamb soup was delicious by the way.) There is also a selection of sandwiches, cakes, candy available, as well as Skyr (healthy & delicious) plus all the usual drinks options including a limited range of bottled beer.

The accommodation consists of small wooden cabins set away from the roadside towards the rear of the hotel, ours was spotlessly clean and furnished with twin beds, armchair, tables and so on. It's not a 'cosy log cabin' type affair here by a long chalk - there are no carpets or rugs, and decor is minimal to the point of it feeling possibly austere, but nevertheless it feels fresh and bright. Windows were fitted with nets and deep coloured drapes, there are no proper black-out curtains but it feels private when you close them, although of course if you go when the midnight sun is up, it won't get completely dark in the room so take an eye-mask if you like a blacked out bedroom. There are several power sockets provided, if you're traveling from the US / UK don't forget to bring an adaptor plug. A kettle and tea / coffee things are provided (look for them inside the cupboard under the TV set if you don't see them on arrival.)

The bathroom was spotlessly clean, with a small range of toiletries and a good shower. Hot water was plentiful - it comes from boreholes - and sometimes you smell a faint scent of sulphur when turning on the hot tap but it disperses quickly & is quite natural. (You have to remember to take off any silver jewellery though, or it may tarnish.) The cold water at Geysir is drinkable, so don't waste your money on expensive bottled brands. Beds were comfortable, and bedding was of good quality and very clean. Due to the rather 'campsite' flavour of the site - a bunch of log cabins amongst a group of young trees - we had anticipated some degree of noise from neighbouring cabins but were pleasantly surprised at how peaceful the whole site was, and even with the window open all night we were not disturbed. This of course we realise is 'pot luck' though, it all depends on who else is staying, on our trip it was largely couples. WiFi is available and we did use it, but it proved a little sporadic and faded out once or twice only to come back again later on. There is also a geothermal swimming pool and hot tubs available for guests of the hotel to use, do check on closing times though to avoid disappointment. We didn't go in but admit it looked very enticing with curls of steam rising off the water in the early morning. One for next time perhaps!

As I've already mentioned, Geysir gets very busy during the daytime but the beauty of staying at the hotel means that once the crowds have dispersed you can simply stroll over the road and wander round the hot pools, boiling springs, and steaming pits in relative peace and quiet. There are a few benches provided around the site and sitting there in the evening sun watching the mists and steams roll past is wonderfully atmospheric (as is going up there early in the morning when nobody is around.) Strokkur, the main attraction here goes off very regularly - you can see it from the hotel car park in fact - so don't feel you have to rush up there or that you just missed it, it'll send up another jet of water very soon.

We did not eat dinner in the restaurant, however we did partake of the buffet breakfast in the morning. If you are used to the vast array of choices at your typical American breakfast buffet then you may well consider the options here somewhat limited, although we enjoyed the meal very much. On the day of our visit there was a selection of cold cereal, cold milk, water, and OJ, plus coffee and varies types of tea (the lady apologised that the selection wasn't bigger but there were still 6 or so to choose from). Also available 'continental style' sliced cheese and hard boiled eggs, Skyr, stewed blueberries, crispbreads, sliced white bread (toaster provided along with butter, honey & jelly,) fruit salad, mini croissants & pain au chocolat. Hot selections included bacon, scrambled egg, beans and sausage (hot dog style.) There was plenty of everything, everything was fresh and tasty, and the staff were quick to clear away used plates.

Having read some of the reviews on Trip Advisor, we weren't quite sure what to expect but happily had an enjoyable stay here. The staff were clearly busy but always extremely helpful, and one lady went to great lengths to ensure my husband had everything he needed for our stay. I think quite possibly your opinion of staying here is coloured by now busy / noisy / crowded it is, and so on (insert variables here), but personally we were lucky with everything, had a very good time there and wouldn't hesitate to return.

Room Tip: Cabins to the rear of the site look out across open fields, cabins closer to car park have quicker a...

Stopped here for lunch while on a golden circle tour Treated absolutely terribly Told to just go sit down We sat and we waited and waited Eventually given bowl of what tasted like packet soup with a couple of leeks thrown into it Again we waited and waited until lunch was literally plonked down in front of us without a word being said Again we waited and waited and eventually coffee was brought Cold and undrinkable It seems they think they can get away with that kind of treatment of PAYING customers because of their location I will certainly be contacting the tour organisers to relay my feelings

Room Tip: dont visit this hotel would be my best advice

We were exhausted and looking for a place to stay after a long and beautiful day on the Golden Circle. We ate dinner at the Restaurant, then decided to get a room. The price was high, but we chose to proceed without viewing a room first due to being so tired. What a mistake! The staff was not courteous and seemed confused doing the most basic task of checking us in, then insisted that we pay on spot. After driving to the small cabin room, we were incredibly disappointed by the tacky decor, cold room, and no window shades. The overall feel of the place was cheap and NOT worth the money. Keep in mind, we are campers and are not picky with hotel rooms as we usually sleep in a tent, but this was just not worth it! So, we asked for a refund and two days later realized instead of a refund the attendant charged us double! We have been working on being refunded by the not so helpful staff for over two weeks now. So, save yourself the trouble and don't stay here.

do not eat the breakfast here, which costs 10 euros. No hot water, no cold water, no breakfast tea, only green tea, cold strong coffee. Cornflakes the only cereal. Basic accommodation in cabins, very bad lighting, and cold, no black out curtains and costs 150 euros per night. Try somewhere else nearby if you want to see the geysers, you can stay elsewhere and still see them. A complete rip off. Disgusting buffet dinner last night as well for 54 euros per person.

Room Tip: try the hotel or guesthouse nearby at Gulfoss

The hotel building had a large restaurant with ok food, but no rooms. The lodgings were duplex cottages of simple standard. The staff were hospitable. The location is unique and the only good reason to stay here. We had the springs to ourselves late evening and early morning.
By Islcandic standards the "room" price was very high.

Thank you very much for your review, we appreciate your kind words.

I have to correct you though on the price, we are cheeper then other hotels and way cheeper then the hotels in Reykjavik, it´s very easy to see if you look at their webpages. Your price is around 132 Euros while other hotels are around 175 Euros and higher.

Thank you and best regards from the family at Geysir.
