“Lovely lobster soup”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2012 via mobile

Cafe neilsen is a bit basic and unprepossessing esprcially outside but the food is actually pretty good. Service came with a smile. I had a delicious lobster soup - a fair bit of meat - and then lamb; nicely cooked with salad and potato. Avoided reindeer which was an eye watering 6900ikr - about $50 - Iceland still isn't cheap!

“Lobster Soup/Bisque to Die For”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

This cafe is only open in the summer months. The food was superb from the lobster soup with a bit of cheese melted on top, to the incredibly fresh and delicious breads. We also enjoyed the tiger shrimp and house wine. We will definitely eat here again. The wait staff is very attentive as well.

“Cheaper option than Hotel Herad!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2012

We wanted a cheaper meal than that on offer at Hotel Herad where we were staying. My husband had lentil and sweet potato soup which was very tasty and we both enjoyed a pasta dish for a change from the usual Icelandic menu. Made a change to be in a local restaurant rather than a hotel dining room.

“Cozy and friendly”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2012

Eggilsstador doesn't have much choice when it comes to eating. You can go to the cafeteria attached to the gas station or eat in the hotel. Or go to the Cafe Nielsen, by far the better choice. It's a block up the hill from the main street in a little house and has only 16 seats if you include the table in the front porch so avoid going at peak times. When it's sunny there are lots of tables on the patio though. Staff is friendly and reasonably fast. The menu has a few fish, a few pasta, a few meat dishes and what we tried; salad and salted cod was not bad. There is a limited wine menu and a few of the usual desserts; chocolate cake, etc. It may not sound fabulous but it's better than the other places in town.
