“Guesthouse Egilsstadir Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2012

Although we did not stay at this Guesthouse, the restaurant was recommended to us by the hotel manager where we stayed in Egisstadir.
very welcoming staff, great food, lovely dining room & amenities.
Interestingly, food is served at gas stations in Iceland and the nearby N1 gas station is no exception. The restaurant at the N1 had a dinner for 16.95 while for $1 more, a fresh lamb burger (huge), beautifully presented and lovely side salad were offered at the Egilsstadir Guesthouse Dining Room.--there was no comparison!

Set right up against the lake edge this hotel is beautifully decorated inside, rooms are cosy and comfy with iron, hairdryer, kettle, tea, coffee and a TV. The views out the lakeside windows on the 2nd floor are amazing, we got here in time to see the sunset reflected over the frozen lake, just wonderful! And the food is outstanding, we actually followed the advice of some other reviews and went to check out Cafe Neilson, but A) found it closed at 630pm on a Tues night and B) the menu outside showed it to be more expensive now than the hotel. So we came right back and had the best meal i have had in years! I think 2 courses (including the most expensive main option - fillet of beef from their own farm) plus one glass of wine came to about £88 - but this is fine dining at its best and we were stuffed full after, so i really would recommend you eat at the hotel. They have the most amazing cosy little bar area with real fires and huge leather chairs, its a real joy to stay here!

Room Tip: 2nd floor facing the lake!

The hotel is in the centre of town (albeit a small one). Rooms are modern and clean. Food in the restaurant is very good. Fine for a stop over on the way to or from the north.

I stayed here for just one night but it was enough to say that this place is very good. Just few meters from the center of the village, confortable, clean and cozy with a very good cusine. The room was large enough with wardrobe, wood desk just in front of the window and amenities. The staff is kind and are all english speakers. Price on average.

We stayed one night in this cozy hotel during our two week trip round Iceland.

Room (with private facilities) was big and clean. Hotel has free wireless internet.

We didn't have supper in the hotel, but it seems to be a choicy restaurant in the area. Breakfast buffet was very good and staff were all friendly !

Definitely recommended

We had a great stay at this guesthouse. I was cautious as I had never stayed at a farm guesthouse but this the perfect setting, rooms were large and decorated beautifully. Staff was pleasant, location ideal, next to lake and close to town. One night ate at the restaurant it was fabulous. Breakfasts were also great. I would recommend this to anyone.

Room Tip: Double bed rooms we had was great. Room 10 great.

Beautiful place and lovely restaurant. I really enjoyed the decor. Most places where we stayed while in Iceland were very basic, but this wasn't (we booked our trip, including this place, through Icelandic Farm Holidays). I felt like we were staying in a three or four star hotel.

We only spent one night and didn't really get to explore the area because the day we arrived, there was terrible, terrible weather. We were glad to have a nice place to stay in for the evening and eat.
