“Not impressed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

This was our least favorite stay during our 9 night adventure in iceland. We found the front staff cold, no breakfast was included, and the rooms were very basic (but clean). The water in the shower was luke warm at best (which is unusual in iceland because of the abundance supply of hot water!). We would not stay here again if we had the choice. The place was also overpacked with tourist buses ... and it was not the feel we wanted for independent travelers.

This hotel has many parts. We stayed in the newer wing that should be dubbed the knotty pine hall. Rooms, hallway, ceiling all knotty pine. But fine room. There are also cottages, room with shared bathroom facilities etc. we enjoyed our meals at the restaurant, food is quite good ( don't bother with garlic bread that is a garlic and butter pizza) some of the best fish soup we had. Service could be improved but was friendly. Breakfast is in the big hall but met expectations.

We stayed in the summerhouse accommodation which was clean and warm. The wifi though didn't work anywhere. The view across the harbour was good and we were able to watch the trawlers go in and out. The local swimming pool was warm and clean and a good place to have a rest in a hot tub. Not much in the village to look at though the drive was OK on the gravel road.

Decent hotel though rooms were dated and seemed to be furnished with cast offs. Spotlessly clean though and the staff was very nice and the breakfast buffet was good. Another plus was that wifi access actually worked in the room unlike some of the other hotels we stayed in that only offered it in the lobby area. The best thing about the hotel was the cute little town in was in. Though we arrived late, we went out for a walk since it stays light in Iceland until nearly midnight in summer.

This is a review of the sleeping bag accomodation in the building beside the main hotel. From the indifferent service at a late evening check-in to the rotten window in the bedroom, and between the sunshine streaming in the bedroom due to tatty curtains and the noise because paper thin walls/doors we had an unenjoyable stay in this hotel. Unfortunatly I would not be able to recommend the sleeping bag accommodation (the main hotel may be better)due to the inadequate standard of the rooms.

We spent one night here in the main building during our holiday. We arrived during a thick mist and could barely see a thing. We ate in the restaurant and had a lovely meal (one of my husbands favourites). During the night it became very windy but the cloud had cleared and the view was amazing. Next morning we finally got to see how lovely the area was, but it was still so windy. A lovely country hotel with a lot of history.

PS just a quick thank you to the person who parked next to us and let their car door bash into ours and scrape a 5 inch gouge out of the rear door and wheel arch - sadly you probably won't read this but you know who you are -thanks

We spent one night in this hotel and we had a nice experience. The staff was very kind to wait for us till 11pm and our room was nice and comfortable. Breakfast buffet was basic and our table was not so clean.
