“Great lake location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2013

Our 5th night of touring the Ring Road and a very enjoyable stay.
We arrived in time for lunch and had homemade soup or fresh sandwiches with coffee refills which were welcome after a very snowy drive! As everywhere, the recepionist/waitress spoke excellent english and divulged the location of a local cave with natural hot pool to visit before the Myvatn Nature Baths which we thoroughly enjoyed.
Our rooms overlooked the lake, although we moved from a superior room on the top floor with a road view to a standard, much smaller, first floor room with lakeview but weren't offered a discount. We enquired about Northern Lights activity but were told the forecast was poor however we now believe they were active in the early hours but we were not experienced enough to realise!
We all had lamb chops with mash & veg for dinner which was a large portion & very delicious.
Breakfast was a little haphazard as the hotel was quite full and some items ran out such as eggs but hot breakfast was cooked to order which was an unexpected bonus.
A good stay, lovely location, would be more appreciated in summer!

The hotel faces the lake. You can catch the northern lights just behind the hotel facing the lake. Hotel is very clean. Breakfast is modest but more than substantial. The area around the hotel is nice. We were not able to explore as it was snowing the evening we were there. I will return to this hotel again if I visit Myvatn .

We booked this hotel for an overnight stay before a whale watching tour in Húsavík. The room was plain but clean and comfy. Our rate included the buffet breakfast that was nothing special but good enough. The location is right next to lake Myvatn - it is magnificent! Just few hundred meters away you can find a thermal spa in the village and approx. in 45 minutes drive you can reach Húsavik that offers whale watching tours. I hope I will have the opportunity to return this area during summertime as well!

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the back of the house, overlooking the lake!

We had actually booked at their larger sister hotel (Hotel Reynihlid) 300m away, but were advised we were transferred here. Suspect this was because there were just too few travellers to justify having the larger hotel open. I think the change was actually to our advantage, because the smaller hotel is closer to the lake and hence has better views.
Overall, the hotel was very comfortable. Rooms large, but somewhat basic. One excellent feature is that the dining room is available all door with free coffee. You can even use it too eat your own food, if you want. This was handy, as we were snowbound and virtually confined to the hotel for half a day. Staff were friendly and helpful. There is no restaurant here, but there is a bistro 300m away. Had two meals there. One was excellent (fish). Other was ordinary (lamb burger).

Room Tip: Ask for a lake view.

This hotel is a real find. One of the best we stayed in, it had a clean room, and was warm and comfortable. The owner of the hotel was a very friendly, courteous woman who offered us scrambled egg and bacon for breakfast which was a lovely touch (may be she realises being English, ham and cheese just doesn't cut it!). The marmalade was out of this world too. Its in a fabulous location, on the edge of Lake Myvatn. We highly recommend this hotel.

On our week long tour of Iceland, staying in hostels and hotels for one night only, this was the best hotel we stayed in.
The room was large, and had a big bathroom, with a bath as well as a shower.
The breakfast was freshly cooked and plentiful. Coffee and tea was available - free - 24 hours a day.
And the staff were extremely friendly. Felt more like a friendly guest house than a hotel, and made us feel like one of the family. Would highly recommend

We stayed three nights in October in room 14 - with perfect lake view. The staff was friendly and breakfast had an excellent variety. Close by is Myvatn Nature Bath and we received a good dining recommendation "Cowshed". All in all a very good stay. WiFi available, no tv in the room, but available in the common rooms where there is always tea, coffee and snacks. Just the room could have been better cleaned.
