“Clean hotel in idyllic Myvatn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2012

We had a wonderful experience traveling to Myvatn with friends. Service at the hotel is extremely gracious and friendly, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and common areas were plentiful for us to hang out with our friends. This is definitely the place to go if your travels take to you Myvatn.

Myvatn itself is wonderful -- a bit of a hike from Reykjavik but well worth it. The local hot spring is incredible -- the minerals in the spring did wonders for our skin (and much more so than the Blue Lagoon). There was also plenty of winter activities near the lake -- snowmobiling, snowshoeing, hiking and looking for the northern lights (which we managed to see!) -- the hotel staff was very helpful in helping us out with all of this.

The hotel is in a good location across the street from Lake Myvatn. (Don't get it confused with the Hótel Reykjahliđ about a block away!) We had a spacious and quiet room here for 2 nights. The curtains totally blocked out the midnight sun, so we slept quite well.

They also had the best buffet breakfast we saw in Iceland, with hot items like scrambled eggs and bacon included along with the standard fare. Their geyser bread is delicious! The dinner prices were quite expensive, so we did not eat there, but there is a more moderately priced bistro next door.

The staff is fantastic, polite and professional ! The room was clean and tidy, excellent black out curtains! Bath rooms were new and clean! Breakfast was fantastic alot to choose from. Enjoyed the coffee, coffee was not as available I would of like so a pot on the table was heavenly!

This area has a whole host of things to see and for me the scenery was like being on another planet. TOTALLY worth it! Pizza up the road at the cottages was quite good!

I would stay here again and I highly recommend this hotel! I think we paid 37000 isk (285.00 Cdn) double room - 2 people.

We spent three nights here on a recent two week trip around the Ring Road. The room was one of the nicer ones on our trip - clean, quiet, and a good size with a nice view over the lake. The hot breakfast buffet was also a real treat after all the continental breakfasts along the way. We never ate dinner in the restaurant but did greatly enjoy the little bistro out back.

Our guide book stated the owners were unfriendly. Don't believe all you read.

We stayed two nights at the Hotel Reynihlid. It was probably our most expensive hotel in Iceland but it certainly stood out over the others. Lovely welcome from the male receptionist who allowed us to check in early. He had made a note of my request for a very quiet room. Although we missed out on the view over the lake, the room was quiet and had a view of a pretty church at the back. Breakfasts were excellent – good selection of food provided. We had a very good dinner in the hotel on one evening, and on our second night we ate at the nearby Vogafjos Café trying their excellent house platter which we can highly recommend. Lovely views of the lake from the café.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel are quiet but don't have a view.

we stayed here for 3 nights in June 2012. The staff were both helpful and friendly.the food in the dining room was good and we ate here every night of our stay. the breakfast buffet was the most varied of our tour and included bacon and eggs.
The first night I slept badly and was worried that this would spoil our trip. All my anxieties were solved by a topper on the mattress which transformed the situation. My husband did not need any assistance to sleep well and I think the beds were fine generally, but not for me! so if you are sensitive to this issue of firm hotel beds be reassured, the topper really helped.
This hotel supplied a kettle and tea bags in the bedroom which is very welcome.there was also free wifi in the bedrooms as well as the public rooms.

We arrived at the Hotel Reynihlid after a busy day of touring on Iceland's narrow roads and were greeted by a friendly male employee working the front desk. He had read my request for a 1st floor room and handed me the key to a beautiful corner room in the front of the hotel (without having to ask) overlooking the lake. The room was very clean and large with very comfortable beds and good sized showers. My daughter and I were able to use the free wifi in our rooms before heading out to dinner, then a late swim in the thermal pool. Upon returning to our room after midnight, the sun was briefly setting over the lake, as we closed the room darkening shades. Breakfast, which was included, was a real treat with its warm, home made breads, porridge, smoked fish, eggs, cold cuts, and fresh brewed coffee. Great customer service and a good night's sleep made for a happy stay in Myvatn.

Room Tip: Ask for a 1st floor room if you have mobility problems.
