Nothing special about this hotel, but just clean, functional rooms and bathrooms. Wifi decent. Towels were really scratchy and old. Free public parking down the road was literally the best thing. The key lock to the room were the really old kind that could be easily broken into.

The hotel is along the harbor, with each room having its own little balcony, where you can sit out and enjoy a wonderful view. Unfortunately, the room itself was also little. To get to the balcony, we had to move two chairs placed in front of the balcony door, and there was literally no place to move them to. The bed was comfortable but it completely filled the room, leaving only a narrow passage to the bathroom. I barked my shins on the sharp corner of the end-board when I got up at night. The staff were friendly and helpful, and everything was very clean. Breakfast was ample but the coffee tasted like it had been on the hotplate all night. Despite these picky problems, a good value because of price and location.

Very friendly staff. Spotlessly clean. Great breakfast - all you can eat. Overall, excellent value for money. We would definitely stay here again if we were in the area.

The only negative point was the absence of tea and coffee making facilities in the room.

Recently stayed here on trip in June. Great location, able to walk to restaurants. The staff was very friendly, courteous. Rooms are clean, bathrooms good size. Breakfast was always a treat...yogurt, preserves, breads, juice, boiled eggs, etc. served in a sunny room. I liked that every room has its own balcony, and enjoyed sitting out in evening watching the lights on the waterfront and people walking by. However if you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs. Traffic sounds can keep you awake. The one main complaint I had was that the bed was like sleeping on a rock. The positives outweigh this, and I would stay there again.

Room Tip: All rooms face the water!

If you're looking for a simple room to sleep in Gythio, the Aktaion Hotel on the waterfront should fulfill many folks' requirements. Our family had two rooms, including room 203 on the second floor at 50 euro's per night per room. While the rooms have a small balcony overlooking the beautiful water with a great view, it's not much for sitting as it's right over the sidewalk and street. Forget about sleeping with the balcony doors open, the road noise from below will keep you awake; but when the door is closed the room is fairly quiet. The hotel is on the main road, an easy and short walk to waterfront restaurants. While the rooms were clean, there appeared to be few travelers staying while we were there ... probably due to the poor economy is Greece and the strains of $9 per gallon gasoline to make the long drive from Athens to the southern shore of Gythio. A good place for an overnight stay while passing through.

Our room cost 50 euros which is very good value nowadays. Room on front overlooking harbour with small balcony. Clean but not much room for luggage. decent shower. Very good for a one night stop. Helpful reception.
It is a pleasant town
