My wife and I took a long weekend getaway to Eureka Springs and chose the Evening Shade Inn based on the recommendation of a friend. Not knowing much about the city, we couldn't have picked a much better place to stay. Clark and Donna, the proprietors, put a lot of care into their facilities, which are clean and easy to access right off of E. Van Buren (Hwy. 62). The trolley stops right at the end of the driveway so if you want to take advantage of it (there is very little parking and it all costs money in downtown Eureka Springs), you can do so for $5 per person all day.
We opted for the Evening Shade cottage, which backs up to the beautiful woods of the Ozark Mountains and is a spacious, private cottage with a jacuzzi tub and a front and back deck for relaxing in the evening. Breakfast is delivered fresh every morning (at the time of your choosing between 8:30 and 10) and in the evening, you return to a new dessert waiting for you after a day of sight-seeing.
While the location is a bit out of the historic downtown area, I'm not sure I'd want to stay anywhere else. The room was so quiet and secluded that it felt as if we had rented a small house for the weekend. That privacy was something I'm not sure we could have gotten closer to downtown.
If my wife and I return to Eureka Springs, we'll likely stay at the Evening Shade Inn again. Great spot, clean rooms and superb amenities!
