“Nice place - huge rooms - lots of charm”

Grand Central Hotel

Mar 26, 2008

We stayed at this hotel in June 2007.

I had messed up our reservations and we arrived a day late. They were extremely accomodating and fixed us up with a very nice room on the 3rd floor (we had reserved the 2nd). Since they didn't know we were coming the room was quite hot & stuffy but that was our own fault.

There wasn't any stairs but I still absolutely loved the room we were in. It was more like a gigantic suite. I did notice some of the other rooms were not as large as ours (I peeked in since there doors were open). Our room was very spacious & had a full kitchen. The bathroom was split into 2 different rooms with 1 room having a huge jetted tub..LOVED IT!!! While the other room had your toliet and vanity. We didn't have a chance to sample the restaurant or the spa but we loved the decor of the suite. It had some very charming antiques and made us feel like we were royalty. The location of the hotel is right on main street and very easy to find. Many of the other hotels are not. Also, roads in this town are a winding, curvy mess. I didnt feel like there was much to do here but sightsee with my 2 little children. Also, there wasn't a pool here, that would of been handy.

We did visit the Crescent hotel and looked into a room and they were very nice and even cheaper. They also had a pool and a nice rooftop bar.

If returning, I would probably stay at the Cresenct hotel instead just because it has a pool, fantastic restaurant (we ate there) and an elevator. Oh....did I mention that it is haunted??? They give tours there too!! But....if these amentities are not important to you & you would rather have more room then you should definitely stay at the Grand Central Hotel. It was more like an apartment instead of a room.

We have stayed at this hotel many times in the past but this time was the worst. Our bed sheets kept coming off the bed which was hard. We could not find the light switch for the tub light forever, which was hidden in the wallpaper, the hot water tap didn't work for the bathroom sink and the toilet kept stopping up. When we reported the toilet the "second" time, the man behind the desk seemed not to care. We were afraid to use it.
I think we will stay elsewhere next time. They need to renovate.

My sister-in-law and I visited Eureka Springs October 7-8, 2007. She has been there many, many times, but this was my 1st trip (Please note that this was her 1st stay at the Grand Central Hotel).

We were booked for 2 nights at the Grand Central, but checked out after the 1st night due to the unwillingness of the hotel's owner/manager to clean the bath area. As mentioned by another individual in their July 14, 2007 post, the tub area of our room also had significant mold/mildew problems. It was absolutely disgusting.

We experienced the same lack of hospitality that was mentioned in the July 14. 2007 post; and there are only 3 parking places available by the hotel. This hotel does not have an elevator. We had to carry our bags to our room on the 3rd floor with no offer of assistance from the owner/manager. Once in our room, we found a broken lamp lying next to the sofa (which we had to take down to the front desk). That evening we had to make an inquiry about it before another one was provided. I would like to point out that the hotel was practically empty, so there wasn't an issue with the staff being overly busy. I can't comment on the restaurant because it was closed.

Eureka Springs is gorgeous and has many shops to enjoy. There appears to be plenty of lodging accomodations. Had I known where we were staying before hand, I would have read the most current reviews posted here; but this trip was arranged by my sister-in-law, and the hotel was to be a surprise (unfortunately it was).

I will be glad to answer any specific questions.

We more of less enjoyed our stay at the Grand Central Hotel. As billed on its website and in fellow TripAdvisor reviews , the property has a great deal of historical charm and its layout is great. Having the restaurant (which is small) and spa services on-site is a plus also. It was close to the main downtown area on Center Street, being only a block away, but for anyone with limited mobility you need to be aware that that one block is up a very steep hill. The rooms were nice, very clean and the a/c was good since we there during a hot spell.

On the other hand, we were very disappointed by the lack of hospitality on the part of the hotel management. Lynn, who is the proprietor, is not very sociable and seemed incovenienced by having to wait on his paying guests. At no point in time did he or anyone go the slightest bit out of their way to make us feel welcome, and we were there during a slack time when there were very few guests booked at the hotel. Also, the bathrooms were in need of repair. Having jacuzzi tubs was not very romantic given the fact that the walls and tub molding was grimy and mildewed! You should also be advised the although the hotel does have parking and issues parking passes, there are actually only 3 parking spaces behind the hotel. Had we been there during a peak time we would have had to take a shuttle bus from a lot a mile away like other hotels' guests do.

As a result our experience at the Grand Central was nice but could have been much better. This hotel has a lot of character and a lot of potential, but until its management gets serious about providing superior service and the best facilities we will be staying elsewhere in Eureka Springs when we visit again.

Recently stayed at the Grand Central while attending a concert in Eureka Springs. We've been to Eureka several times but this was our first time at Grand Central. It was quiet, the rooms spacious, and the location perfect. Easy walk to the Auditorium and to all the great shops in Eureka Springs. It's a great old building, clean and well kept. Only wish you could book over the internet. We've stayed at the Crescent, Basin Park, and in bed & breakfasts in the past but the Grand Central will be our preferred choice for future visits.
