We stayed for three days in this amazing location, sleeping in an 11th century fortress is impressive! We had room #1 and it is nice, not big but enough to be comfortable with a decent-size bathroom so it worth the extra cost.

We had dinner at the restaurant twice, the food is very good and prices are reasonnable for the quality of food and service (they understand what gluten-free means :). We did not have breakfast at the hotel so will not comment on it.

Overall we recommend it!

“Good location but...”

We have stayed at this hotel a number of times over the past ten years and were encouraged by the news that it had changed hands a couple of years ago and that there had been some changes made. Located within the walls of the Chateau in the centre of town, the location is impressive. The food was always good, and is now even better, with a comprehensive wine list for all tastes and budgets. The rooms, though are not good, in fact the only good rooms are the two large ones at the front with the huge windows - some are very small with bathrooms that would be impossible for anyone of "generous" proportions. The worst, however, is the buffet breakfast and would be more suited to a budget guest house in a run-down English resort. Very tired fruit which must have been offered for several days, a waitress who appeared only to serve a hot drink and not to bother about replenishing any of the items on offer, and to top it all - costing 11 Euros!. Maybe it was on "off" day but we weren't going to take the chance and so ate in a neighbouring hotel on our second day where it was superb, we were made to feel valued and welcome, and at little more than half the cost.

Just spent three nights at this Castle/chateau hotel. Very friendly staff and great food. Rooms clean and comfortable but bear in mind that the original building is centuries old. Would recommend a room overlooking the courtyard and not the road to the rear of the property. Great base to explore and overall excellent value for money.

My husband and I booked this hotel for a short break holiday. We had checked out tripadvisor and the two reviews led us to believe we were in for a good stay. We were certainly not disappointed. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the accommodation (superior room) very comfortable, the dining superb. It more than lived up to our expectations. The hotel gave us access to the beaches and war memorials, plus lovely countryside and towns like Bayeaux and Coutances. We did not have time to explore the west coast - if we return we will certainly look at this hotel again. Fantastic hotel in a unique setting and excellent value for money.

“The most wonderful hotel we stayed at in Europe.”

L'Hostellerie du Chateau

This was by far our favorite hotel in 5 weeks of traveling in Italy, France and England. It is worth the 10 minute drive off the highway to stay in this wonderful castle in a charming, beautiful village.

Upon arriving, we were greeted by the proprietors with such charm and graciousness that we felt that we were the most important guests that they had ever had. In fact, they treat everyone that way but it still feels so special. We were given a room much bigger than we ordered. It was clean, filled with character and lots of antiques and had a updated, modern bathroom with a 6-head shower and separate water closet. Very roomy bath and just perfect. Our room even had a few steps to an old turet. This is housed in an old castle so each room was different and I am sure they all had their own unique qualities. The incredible part about this hotel is that it was the least expensive hotel we stayed at in all our travels.

Now for dining, their dining room is housed in the original knight's hall. It was busy both nights with hotel guests and many locals. There were so many wonderful choices on the menu that we came back the second night for dinner again. We did not do that anywhere else in our travels. The service was perfect and the food presentation was one for the memory books. We enjoyed everything that we ordered. The first night I could not decide on a dessert so asked our waitperson what they would order. Without hesitation she pointed to the rubarb soup. I reluctantly said "Fine" to that even though it was probably the last choice I would have made. Thank goodness I listened to her for it was the best dessert and although my husband's was great, this was out of this world. Lots of strawberries in it and very light and refreshing. Try it if you eat there. I need to add that the prices were the most reasonable we found in France. Their fixed menu was so well priced that I don't think that we could find a 4 course meal served like that in Seattle for anywhere near their price.

We spent one day touring the beaches and memorials and it was an easy drive, as well as pretty one, from Briquebec.

If you want a hotel with charm, character, personal service, reasonable prices and a great location in a nice town, this is a must. As you can see, we loved it. I recommend it to one and all.
