“We love this hotel top marks all round!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2012

This hotel is located only 5 minutes walk to the main chairlifts. Which was great.
We could not fault this hotel and have enjoyed every minute of our stay here. Choice of food in the restaurant was extensive. Pasa de la Casa is a fantastic resort which I have now boarded at five times now. We are late in the season (last week of march) and have still had good snow, plus sunshine every day!
No runs are too difficult and there is something for everyone here!

i recently seem to be writing a lot of hotel reviews - strange as i holiday rarely. also, my needs are modest. we recently skied in andorra and stayed at this hotel.

room first - no complaints at all. clean and roomy. liked the effective black out blind. has a sauna on the top floor - quite good.

bit miffed that we had to keep asking for clean towels and bog roll.

main gripe - the food . im not fussy, although i do like a bit of pampering when skiing. and i detest eating in a restaurant that is too hot. i like even less the negative reaction of waiters when asked to open a window or when opening it myself.

have experienced food in another hotel in andorra, in arinsal, also in a supposedly good restaurant in the resort. it is neither the best of french or of spanish. meat was usually tough, gristly and fatty. in the hotels there was a buffet menu. never mind the quality sir, feel the width. there were no real starters, merely an array of salads. at times some dishes were tasty, but often not. usually it was lowest common denominator international fayre. certainly not food to be looked forward too.

i genuinely pity those reviewers who thought the food here good - what sort of tripe must you eat at home.?

house wine was good and reasonable though.

We stayed for 1 week, 4 adults with Neilsons. The hotel was clean and tidy. Modern and it's greatest asset being the staff, excellent attitude and very accommodating.

We slowly shuffled to the slopes from the Hotels basement locker room, took exactly 3min 42 seconds, So the location of this hotel from the lifts is excellent.

Surrounding the hotel are various shops/supermarkets.
TIP - If your going out to some of the bars located up hill (Milwaukee bar for example), behind the hotel, use the back door, located on the 5th floor, saves walking all the way around!

We stayed on the 8th floor so relied on lifts. One located on the first floor and the other on the second floor... If I’m being really picky, it could do with another lift at busy times, but honestly, just be patient., its no big deal.

The room was generally warm, resulting in our bedroom window being left open all the time [note: The week we stayed, Andorra was very warm - 14 degrees during the day].
The noise outside was acceptable, again, as Paul Y said - expected noise in this resort.
The room was spacious and had very hot water (enjoying a nice bath/shower every day).
The hotel also has a small spa area. The steam room and sauna both very nice but pot luck on how busy they become. The cost was ‘free’ for us what was a nice touch!
The hotel also has free Wi-fi (all details and access codes given to you on your arrival) What is good enough for YouTube viewing etc...
The walls of the bedrooms are not exactly thick, so if you have/suffer from noise neighbours, you could be effected by them. generally, I struggle to sleep, so bought ear plugs from a motorcycle shop located in town for 1 Euro, But my partner slept just fine without them.

breakfast - Plentiful, no complaints.

Evening meals - Generally OK for the price paid, 1 of our group was a vegetarian, They found that a lack of labels/information an issue and the options for a veggie were limited, but acceptable. Again, the staff came to our assistance with an English speaking chef coming out every evening to speak with us, explaining what each dish was and what it contained, even offering to cook a pizza if nothing else was suitable.

I found that when the hotel bar was busy there was a strong smell of smoke, but this is Andorra, and in most bars you will suffer this. NO smoking in the restaurant tho.

The hotel is not a 4 star, but We WOULD go back to this hotel having no complaints, But, having been to Pas de la Casa twice in 7 years, unlikely to go back for at least another 7 years....

I will try not to waffle and include useful information!
Booked with Teletext/Internet traveller: not with a tour rep (Though Crystal/Neilsons/Inghams/DirectSki were all present in the hotel).
Saved us some money this way and usual benefits (excursions/ski tour guides etc) could all be booked out there really or via hotel...but obviously is still has the advantage of having someone to ask should you have any issues.
Check in very smooth and all our pre booked lift passes/equipment vouchers etc waiting for us.Very nice reception staff always at the desk. Our room 207 on the 1st floor of rooms and was very clean, very warm (no need to turn the radiators on though you can if you want to dry boots!), very good shower always hot and powerful and decent hair dryer. Our room was on the side of the hotel so in terms of noise pollution from outside (it's a lively resort...you know that before you book so don't complain about a bit of noise!) it wasn't too bad at all. If I had to find a problem about the room...towels were small and the beds were a bit rickety. Rooms were cleaned thoroughly every day and towels changed daily if you wish. If like us you go down for brekkie and then back up to the room to get the rest of your gear put 'please dont disturb' on the door, otherwise when you come back up you have to climb over the cleaner to find your stuff as there already in the room. But we were on the first floor...
Safe is 6 euros for the week, operated with room key card, plenty of cupboard space and BBC world news English channel so you can find out if anything exciting is happening whilst your getting ready! Great blackout curtains!
Ok so..breakfast: croissants/pastries/breads/jams/honey/nutella etc/cheeses/hams/salamis etc/bacon (pork)/eggs fried or scrambled(and omelette to order)/beans/sometimes sausages/fruits canned and fresh/yoghurt/cereals/self service efficient coffee machine(espresso/latte/machiato etc/various juices...not fresh but not the luminous stuff you get in some places...tasted good. Everything is buffet but service is prompt, tables are cleaned quickly and they will generally do anything you can to help. All wait staff very good and really nice.
Ski lockers downstairs...each room has its own locker which is great. This is 5 euro deposit but free on the assumption you don't lose your key. Not heated but airy...I took my boots up each day and dried near radiator with newspaper...do not walk them up though. Change shoes in lockers and take them up if you wish.
Walk from the exit of the ski lockers to the bottom of the piste is no more than 2 minutes...in fact maybe a minute! Not going to go on about the slopes much because you can find that information on the net but...there are a choice of 5 lifts from bottom of Pas De La Casa, 2 of which will take you right up where you can ski down the other side into Grai Roig. The area is a really good size, rivalling the Milky Way etc. Mainly wide pistes, with some off piste but little tree runs. Still plenty of fun places to ski, 3 or 4 'snow parks', and some interesting connecting runs. The Grandvalira area really is big and it will take an intermediate skier the best part of the week to cover all the runs at a leisurely pace! I spent the morning back and forth, whilst my girlfriend had lessons....
...Lessons are beginner 10-13, and intermediate from 14-17. Her lessons were really well organised and after the first day they moved everyone around dependant on there ability to ensure everyone was able to learn properly and advance. Lessons really good quality, great instructors (those we came across anyway) and friendly..not pushy or grumpy like some! For lunch on the slopes...there are a limited number of restaurants...given that the bottom of the pistes are in the town many chose to eat at the bottom. However there or on the pistes: Beer : 3 euro/Pizza: 7-12 euro/ Main meal(veal/steak chips etc)10-15 euro. Coffee: 2 euro
Apre ski is as lively or chilled as you like. There are plenty of bars with (live) music, all the football is shown, Karaoke, a couple of clubs. Or alternatively there are plenty of more relaxed bars/restaurants. Beer: 3 euro. Happy hour almost everywhere from 4-19 (BOGOF) so beer 2 pints for 3 euro! Or if your on you own beer wise..buy a half and get the second half free. Then you don't have a pint getting flat and smoky when you drink the other. Everywhere is smoking inside. Neither of us smoke and it didn't bother us too much.
Ok,...back to the hotel: The bar they keep as unsmokey as possible with fans and air con. Non smoking in the restaurant. Not sure about the rooms. Ours didn't smell of smoke.
The bar has pool table, table football and some board games/cards etc. Beer 3 euro (BOGOF happy hour) and cup of tea 1.30 euro. Bar really relaxed atmosphere and they will adapt the music/football on the TV dependant on whose in there. Wifi in the bar/reception/rooms but a bit temperamental. 2x computers 1 euro for ten minutes fast internet. Dinner in the hotel was buffet: Really decent salad cart/soup or broth/ potato of some kind / pasta and sauce / various vegetable dishes / varying meat dishes- goulash, stuffed chicken, beef, veal, casserole type dishes/ fish dishes. Also...something cooked to order every night..lamb/pork steak or ribs etc. All tasty and for the most part hot enough. Desert...ice cream, cakes, sponges, fruits, jelly etc. All good! Drinks served to you at dinner from the waiters and have a very good value wine list...decent bottle for around 12 euro. If you don't want to finish it in restaurant or in the bar they will keep it for you for the next night and tag your room number on it. We ate out one night at a place called La Copa just round the corner...Had a 18 ounce steak cooked in the open fire in front of us and it was amazing. Great service and really reasonably priced. Restaurant food great but thought it would be nice for a change of atmosphere one night...I would highly recommend it.
OK...so I did end up waffling. Hotel location perfect, staff fantastic, prices very very reasonable, rooms and everywhere clean and food very good and plentiful. Resort lively if you wish but don't let this put you off if that's not your thing. There are nice restaurants, relaxed bars and it has a really nice atmosphere despite its appearance not your typical quaint French resort. Most speak Spanish or French....and English (aren't we lucky!)
Ski area really good, good lifts...I only used a drag once and it wasn't necessary. Great instructors if you go for lessons. For just ski rental which I hadn't pre-booked was 50 euro...much cheaper than elsewhere. As we were leaving on March 11th it was a bit sludgy at the bottom but still plenty of snow (snowed 3 days when we were there so next couple weeks should be ok!) But for next year or Summer...this hotel is great...go there!

Wide choice of good fresh food at breakfast and dinner, friendly service and relaxed atmosphere. If you forget to take your room card to the restaurant (they won't let you in without it), it's no problem to get another from reception to save you from going all the way back up to your room.

The hotel is very close to the ski lifts, even closer if you take the exit on the 5th floor at the back of the building.

I'm really impressed with this hotel and if I come back to Andorra I will make a point of staying here again, rather than run the risk of staying somewhere sub-standard.

Take earplugs, as there is noise from outside nearly all night. This is not the fault of the hotel, but the proximity to everything. You would get the noise if you stayed anywhere here.

Highly recommended.

We stayed in the Magic in early January 2012 - family of four - daughter 14 and son 9 - all experienced skiers. First thing to say is that hotel is central, a few hundreds yards walk from back door to lifts. Food is very good - reasonable choices for breakfast and dinner - and the staff in the restaurant are fantastic. The wine list isn't extensive but is good value with some very decent wines. Receptionists are knowledgeable, friendly and very helpful. Bar is well ventilated and never got overly smoky even when full. There are several PCs provided for guest use beside the bar. We had a family room at the back of the hotel - no view but also no noise. Very spacious - twins for us and separate fold-down singles for the kids - good storage, safe, small fridge, ensuite small but did have bath and great shower. Hotel is very handy for shops and supermarkets and only 5 mins walk downhill to the excellent new sports centre beside the bus station - good swimming facilities and also worth checking out the roof-top outside jacuzzi - walk out over icy path, plunge into the beautiful warm bubbles, relax, run the gauntlet again and then back downstairs again quickly to experience the pure heaven of getting into the kids pool (slightly warmer than main pool). Great sauna and steam rooms too - one of each for men and ladies.

Despite the short distance to the slopes, you can make things even easier and avoid most of the carrying by using a wonderful service from Mark & co. at the side of the slopes - for 20 Euros a week you can leave skis and boots there and you get a free beer each evening so it really costs next to nothing - rep should advise on coach transfer otherwise drop into Paddy's Bar and ask for details (non-smoking with an excellent pool table so great for kids as is their partner cafe/bar beside the ski/boot storage huts).

I was with a young family so will leave night life for others to review. As for the skiing, I've been to Pas De La Casa many times and it remains a favourite - particularly as an ideal spot to bring inexperienced groups and friends - the area is extensive and facilities are good in terms of lifts, snow cannons etc.

In all the Magic did live up quite well to its name for us and I'd have no hesitation staying there again in the future and recommending it to others.

Room Tip: Families should ask for a room at the rear. Also look on your first night to find the lift that goes...

So by now you've read about the slow lifts and too hot rooms, please ignore these reviews great hotel amazing staff and superb location trust me from an avid traveller this hotel is great Lear. To use the thermostat for the heating and don't be silly about waiting 3 extra seconds for a lift you will be pleased.
