“Unique Boutique Hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2012

Our stay at Casa Palopo was absolutely wonderful! We were greeted with a delicious hibiscus punch and shown to our funky chic room with a gorgeous view of the lake. We were there in the off season, so we were 1 of 2 guests at the hotel so we had the place to ourselves most of the time. The dining area outdoors was simply stunning, and the food delicious! I looked forward to every meal! The pool was the only downside, there was a lot of leaves and such in the pool and in the luxurious little cabanas, but I didn't come to swim so I did not mind. Overall, amazing place to stay, I highly recommend.

Originally went in Nov of 2009 and planned on using the hotel as a base to explore Guatemala and were totally blown away by the beauty of both the hotel and the lake.
Got so taken by the view that we ended up changing our plans and stayed within walking distance of the hotel for the week. Felt like we had the place to ourselves most of the time as there are only a few rooms and most left for the day...
We had an amazing day walking down to town (10 min walk) and sat lakeside at a small bar and enjoyed the sunset from there. Getting a taste of the local village life great.

We went back in Nov of 2010 for 5 days and stayed in the upper villa. Totally different experience, even more secluded! Staff was great, would highly recommend this as an amazing getaway that you'll not soon forget.

We will most certainly make a third trip!

Logistics: First trip we rented a car and drove from the airport. (car sat there for the week.) Second trip we hired a car and driver - much better way to go as the roads are not well marked. (would love to do the helicopter - flight must be amazing to see the country side and lake/volcanoes from the air!!!)

Activities: We did take a boat tour organized by the hotel that took us across the lake to two other villages so we could walk around and explore them - nice way to spend a day.
Rest of the time was spent at pool or on the terrace reading, relaxing and looking at the amazing view.

Food: We ate at the hotels for most meals, agree that the prices are on the high side, but ok with the premium of not having to go anywhere or rush for reservations. We did walk to another hotel in town for dinner one night, it was nice (not great) so there are options if you want to explore the area.

Room Tip: Blue room was amazing - secluded and romantic! Tip - have a meal served on the private terrace!!! V...

We spent three nights at Casa Palopo the last days of May after spending a week running a dental clinic in the Maya Highlands.

This place is amazing. The beautiful view of the three volcanos that surround Lake Atitlan, the amazing food(the steak, and tuna tartar were excellent). The rooms our gorgeous and the view from the shower is just as great as it is from the main dining area. Wake up early to see the beautiful morning view of the volcanoes. Crawling into bed the first night felt like a 1,000 angels were tickling our whole bodies.

The staff are fanatastic and were extremely helpful when we needed them. Many reviews mention that it is expensive, but compared to North American prices we felt it was very reasonable. If you are comparing the price to stay here to other places around Lake Atitlan, it would make sense. But well worth the $$$$.

It's a great walk from the hotel to Pana and through Santa Catarina, very safe. You can always flag down the pick up trucks to get to the towns, which is lot's of fun too.

Check out groupon. You just might be lucky and get a voucher for a discounted stay.

Stayed 6 lively nights at the Casa Palopo and was in awe of the decor, the food and the location. The grounds are impecably maintained, the customer service was outstanding from check-in to arranging tours and transportation.

The food was fabulous and I was a bit leary as I had read other reviews. I can not justify any type of comment that was made for too expensive when I enjoyed the meals that I had with a view that was so breathtaking and service that was outstanding.

I viewed all of the guestrooms and they are all beautiful with spectacular views of the lake and volcanoes.

All charges were explained to me in my confirmation so I knew up front what to expect. No surprises,

Room Tip: for traveling with a friend - # 4 is large with 2 beds and a very large terrace.

We just checked out of Casa Palopo this morning, and I don't want any time to pass before expressing just how fantastic this place is...WOW!

Before I get into its brilliance, I'll start with the one thing that felt off about the hotel—the prices for food and drink. We met several other guests while we were there, and though all of us were enchanted by the hotel, everyone seemed to be complaining about the expensive menu...we're talking $10 for a French press coffee. The hotel's restaurant is not just for guests, and perhaps they could consider giving a discount to guests staying at the hotel. Just a thought.
There are loads of restaurants in Panajachel however, and a fifteen minute tuk tuk ride will get you there with no problem.

Now to the good stuff...
Casa Palopo is absolutely beautiful, in every way. The rooms are spacious and beautifully designed, and the bathrooms are fantastic...we had a massive shower with a glass wall that looked out onto the lake, which, by the way, is easily one of the most beautiful lakes I've ever seen in my life.

There are so many common areas in the hotel, and each one is perfect...some indoors, some outdoors...comfy chairs in front of a fireplace, large living room with terrific art, cozy library with lake view, and too many terrace choices to count. All with lake and volcano views of course. Every foot in this hotel is designed to perfection, and it all feels welcoming and comfortable. It's truly one of the most charming hotels I've ever stayed in.

The staff is terrific...friendly and attentive and entirely helpful. Everyone went out of their way to make sure our stay was just right, and it was. All the beautiful flowers and endless bird songs added to the already perfect environment.

Stay here if you get the chance...you will be absolutely thrilled that you did. There's plenty to explore around Lake Atitlan...and we did some exploring...but if you wanted to just sit around and take a dip in the pool (not very big but nice) and revel in your perfect surroundings, this boutique hotel (only seven rooms) lends itself well to spending endless hours doing a whole lot of nothing.

Enjoy!!

We were looking for a quite peaceful getaway and this place was perfect. We just needed a quiet place to recharge our energy. The hotel is quiet, out of the way, and have a well trained staff. They are there when you need them, and will leave you alone if you don't.
The beds and linens are top-class.
Remember this is a third world country, so there are a couple of minor things we overlooked. However overall we can recommend this property.

Great place. No bugs, great food, good location.
Only thing is that it's so secluded that it's costs a lot to get around.
We stayed 4 nights and for 2 nights we were the only ones there.
Be aware of extra charges! We got a ride from airport to hotel and back and they charged a tip of 10 percent! They charge that on everything, but they contract all services out so I wonder if they get the tip? Worse thing was we tipped the driver 15 usd and the hotel charged the tip too. Becareful of what u are being charged. Carlos is a great employee there!!!

Room Tip: Get a lake view!
