The hotel is gorgeous, and in a wonderful, set-back location. My boyfriend and I splurged on this hotel, and stuck to hostels the rest of out time in Guatemala. The room was LOVELY and the staff was very kind and willing to help. The price is just high. After talking to some locals (who were shocked to find out that rooms for $130US/night even exist in Guatemala), and experiencing what $30US/night got us, we both agreed the "splurg" was not worth. What sold me on the room was the idea of having our own private hot tub in the room. Not so. The tub is there, but the drain would not plug. When I asked the next morning if it could be fixed I was told: "That's not a hot tub. It's not advertised as a hot tub." So here is the description they have of the room on their website, all is accurate, EXCEPT the hot tub part, the part that won me over unfortunately...
"Sonrisa boasts beautiful views, a queen size bed, balcony, living space and kitchen. The private bathroom has a shower and a hot tub that have been built into the rock of the mountain. Simply stunning."
Also, the included breakfast is fresh fruit, (which was delicious) sliced bread, and hard(ish) boiled eggs. A great breakfast if you're heading off to a yoga class, but not if you wake up hungry and want to be filled. Our $30 a night hostel the night before included a cooked-to-order, hot breakfast which was incredible, so we were a bit disappointed when all we saw was melon for breakfast.
It is a lovely hotel, but I will never pay even half what we paid here for another night in Guatemala ever again.
