“Basic room, but surrounded with numerous restaurants”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2011

It's located in Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City, not in Kathmandu, strictly speaking. It is close to the Patan Durbar Square, a World Heritage Site. It's very atomospheric, worthwhile spending a day. The hotel room is very simple. During my stay, there was electiricity only around ten hours a day. The hotel has a generator, but it minimises its usage to save costs, I should think. So sometimes at around 11 pm, the light went off suddenly without prior warning. Breakfast is included in the room rate, but again very basic. It seemed that the hotel was well known by tax drivers, so it was easy to get back from central Kathmandu. In the neighbourhood, there are numerous restaurants and cafes. The hotel restaurant is not bad at all, but I explored several restaurants in the area; Nepalese, Indian, international, even Japanese. The staff were generally kind and helpful. My only complain was that towels provided in the room were always dirty. I mean they were washed but they had been darkened for some unknown reason. Next time I stay there, I will take my own towels!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the swimming pool are quieter.

We stayed here for three nights and liked it so much we rebooked for later in our trip.

Lovely staff; professional, warm and helpful and all the facilities you need really. Bar is comfortable with the nicest bar staff and restaurant serves good food, both buffet and al a carte. We tried both and it was all good! Breakfast was also included in our room price.

We didn't used the pool but ate on the terrace which is very nice. Also has a well stocked and reasonably priced gift shop and the entire hotel is clean and generally well maintained.

Generators kick in in peak hours if there's load shedding and we had no problems with hot water as we did in other hotels.

Our room was very comfortable, well serviced and the reverse cycle air con worked a treat.

There are shops and restaurants a few mins away by foot and Patan centre within walking distance (3km). Its just a R300 cab ride to Katmandu centre and there's almost always a cab waiting.

I can't really think of anything negative to be honest. If I have to then perhaps the breakfast buffet could have been hotter but I'm clutching at straws there really.

All in all the greenwich is great value, friendly, clean and hospitable. We'd definitely go back!

Just a tip, locally its pronounced the "green witch" not the "gren-itch". We confused a few taxi drivers till we realised!

My friend stayed here for two nights and I stayed for one night few days before. I read reviews in tripadvisor and contact this hotel through email. They gave us very reasonable rates so we booked it. the hotel doesnot provide complimentary transfer but their transportation rate was very reasonable. We were picked up by their staff with a simile. When we reached the hotel everyone greeted us with smile and check in was very swift. They asked us for coffe/juice as a welcome drink. The lobby was very clean and well kept.
The rooms we were alloted for was rather small than what we expected for a deluxe room but it was clean. There was a minibar which had only few carbonated drinks and beer but was very expensive in comparison to other hotels we stayed. There were two sterillized glasses and a water flask with safe drinking water. There was no any tea/coffee maker in the room. Both of our rooms had aircon but as there is a 12 hours loadshedding/day it was not used properly. A locker and a Wardrobe was also in the room.
The bathroom was also very clean with enough clean towels and bathtub however some other bathroom accessories were missing. Hot water was available24x7 hours and the pressure was excellent.
They have two restaurants AHAR near the lobby and HITIBAHAL at poolside. We ate only breakfast in Ahar which was included in the room rates. It was fixed menu breakfast and though good but nothing special. the items were more or less same in both days.I have heard so many good reviews for the meals in Greenwich village hotel by local people but unfortunately couldnot get time to taste them.
The staffs were very polite, smiley and friendly. From the Lady guard at the main entrance to the people in the reception to the staff of house keeping all were excellent.
There is a swimming pool which was not functional during winter (I guess). There was a poolside restaurant and Sauna near it.
There is no Lift or Elevators [ so it may be difficult for handicapped or old/weak people].
It is located in residential area so quite peaceful but this makes this hotel a little 'out of happenings' of tourists destination. There are several tourist class hotels, reataurants, Spas, Departmental stores within the peripheri of 20mintues walk. This area is also supposed to be one of the Posh Areas in Kathmandu valley. So many expats live within a kilometer and Korean Embassy also near.
The hotel is small and not very Luxurious in comparison to Soaltee, Hyatt and Dwarika's both in rates and service but it can overall fulfill the needs of budget tourists.

Greenwhich Hotel pick up from airport and while waiting check in, they have free coffee service. Here also have wifi and swimming pool. Very nice area. From the Hotel to Patan only30 minutes by walking. Here was very quiet and good food specially pasta and cabbage flower fried with Potato and curry.

Friendly, but slow service. Buffet breakfast and dinner nothing special, but if you ask for it, it's served at no extra charge (omelette, scrambled eggs, cheese, fruit).
My room was fine, but others of our group reported smells and noise and asked to be moved, which was accommodated as soon as possible.
Nepal style body massage offered at beauty parlor was very good and worth the money.
