Aman and Kim were awesome...thanks for making our trip to Nepal so much better! From the minute we got picked up at the airport we felt very welcomed...I didn't have the chance to get any Nepalese currency because of our late arrival but Aman lent me some money so we could eat at a nearby restaurant! Super cool. Awesome view of the Golden Temple - seriously right next door! Very friendly, lots of good advice...we will be back again (just be sure to watch your head!)

Hira Guest House was the first hotel I stayed in my Nepali trip. I was glad to have chosen this hotel. It is a 200 years old building modernized to fit 21st century standard. Comfortable and charming from moment of arrival, I had a lively chat over a cup of tea with the friendly manager.
The location is just beside the golden temple and nothing can beat the view of the golden roof while you're having breakfast on the rooftop. Bedroom and bathroom are comfortable, and having a power-bank to charge your phones etc is life saver.
Overall was very satisfied with the comfort level and hospitality from Hira Guest House.

Room Tip: Bring power charger as electricity cut does occur everynight in all Nepal. (the hotel has generator...

I loved Hira Guest House, a 200-year-old traditional Newari house, transformed into a simple and beautiful guest-house. My room was a deluxe room. The widows looked out to two different small courtyards with elegant traditional woodcarving around the window-frames. The ceilings are very low, maybe only 6 feet, and you have to be careful not to bang your head on the exposed beams. You get used to this. Inside the room it was very quiet, and the internet worked well. The guest-house is directly adjacent to the Golden Temple, a high-point of Patan religious and cultural life. The breakfast area on the roof looks down into the courtyard of the Golden Temple, and you can hear prayer observances inside. Many birds around the temple add to the peaceful atmosphere. Hira Guest House is only a 5-minute walk to Patan's Durbar Square and other important temples. The only down-side, and it has nothing to do with the guest-house, is the power-rationing and periodic black-outs that happen everywhere in the greater-Kathmandu area. The guest-house compensates for this with its own generators. I would be very happy to stay here again.

Room Tip: If elegant and traditional simplicity are what you come here for, any category of room should fulfil...

If you want to experience history go to Hira Guest House ! You will be on one of the most famous road/lane of Patan of the olden days where wealthy Marwadi business men stayed and traded
with China. Hira is one such houses. These rich people had built their own Golden Temple hundreds of years ego. Hira shares its wall with this temple ! Go to the terrace lounge and get a birds eye view of the temple courtyard and a close up view of its golden Shikhara. Luckily Hira has not been Redesigned. It has preserved all the elements of the old Newari House. At the same time they have carefully introduced modern amenities like attached full toilets, lighting etc. Toilets are small but rooms are large, well furnished with traditional furniture. The simple colour scheme of red, white and black enhances the old time charm. It has got a tiny reception, a small
lounge at ground floor, then a tight staircase takes you to the upper floors of bed rooms and finally to the breakfast room at the top with the breathtaking HIRA TERRACE !!
Location is just right to experience the real Nepal, their people, their culture.....local shops, school children with their enchanting smile....and ofcourse the omnipresent Nepali Shrines....
Darbar Square is right there. Best restaurants are around you.....
Finally, the Hira Staff...just fantastic. Actually there are only 3-4 of them. And they give a great service. Aman,is one of them, a young man/boy manages the place, very efficiently. He will do every thing for you, order food, book taxi, exchange your money, carry your luggage....and always with a smile. He is the real Hero of Hira !
Traditionally Newari houses had low ceiling height, so does Hira. One can barely stand straight in some spaces. But then why do you want to stand ! Use the comfortable chairs and the bed !! If you are done with lying down and sitting, just go to the Hira Terrace, sip your tea, surf net or just admire the Golden Temple and the Patan skyline. The ceiling height is an issue if only you are more than
5 feet 8 inches. But this issue becomes a non issue in less than an hour of entering the room.
The ceiling heights vary from floor to floor by few inches, look for the higher one if you really need. The staircase may be a bit difficult to negotiate for people who are old and have difficulty in climbing.
You go to Hira for a great experience...may not be for pleasure...

Room Tip: ask for room with relatively higher ceiling height

I was apprehensive on the drive from the airport to this 'Hira Guest House' we had booked just by my looking at the photographs online, wondering what it would actually turn out to be. But from the moment we walked into the cosy little reception/lobby, my fears were put at ease. It was warm and welcoming and just the kind of place i like. The rooms were beautiful with sufficient 'old world charm' and some new-world amenities. It was just like in the pictures, so now false promises there! :) The staff was very helpful, cooperative and friendly ; persistently trying to overcome any language or cultural barriers there might be.
The best part of the stay was the young, enterprising and affable manager, Aman. He was forthcoming, respectful, resourceful, eager and just so charming. He tried his best to make our stay as comfortable and stress-free as possible; even when things were not always in his hand. We appreciated everything he did for us and enjoyed the long chats we had , around the wonderful tabletop fire he put on for us every evening, on the terrace adjoining the beautiful Golden temple.
The low ceilings and wooden stairway might not have been the most convenient, but the overall 'pretty-ness', warmth and quaintness of the place more than made up for it. I am looking forward to going back there someday again!

This little hotel is a charming and most beautiful place in Patan. Away from the busy dubar square, this hotel is a real traditional home with a stylish touch. The manager of the hotel is very helpful and friendly, the breakfast is great and do not miss out the amazing night "fire" at the roof top.

The Hira Guest House is by far the best hotel in all of Patan, and I would personally say all of Kathmandu. Their quaint and cozy atmosphere is perfect for a romantic stay in Nepal. The rooms are clean and elegant while their staff are energetic and accommodating. Located adjacent to ancient Patan Durbar Sq, the location of the guesthouse will make you feel like royalty. Dont be sucked into the hype of the boorish, overrated, and over priced tourist areas of Thamel, Stay with Hira and your trip to Kathmandu will be unforgettable.
