“Best BnB in Kathmandu/Patan”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2011

More of a home than a hotel, the place is run by Sarita - the nicest woman in Nepal! So sweet and hard-working. Breakfast is included and all other meals are only 100 rupees each, and completely delicious. The place is lovely, with a great roof terrace and comfortable rooms, plus laundry service and wifi. The surrounding area of Patan is also great (the beautiful Durbar square only a 10 minute walk). The house has a shop in it, which comes in handy, and Sarita always goes out of her way to give you advice and guide you round the city. If you're going to Kathmandu or Patan, stay here!

Adhering to true Nepali tradition 'Atithi Dev Bhawa' (meaning: guests equal gods) this little place provides the best of value in terms of traditional life style of Nepal. It offers pleasant surrounding with spread of plantation fields at its back yard, quiet prayer room and cosy library to get yourself acquainted with places during your stay.

A true value for money, sleep and promises the best of homely care and love. Experience true Nepali Hospitality at Sanu's

Room Tip: Find yourself a room at the back side of the hotel, which is abundant of light throughout the day.

At Sanu's House you have the opportunity to experience the best of the true Newari culture, where they treat you with warmth and kindness and understanding, based on a culture that dates back centuries and which has remained unspoiled to this day. It is the kind of place where you stay, and, then, you do not want to go away again. The mainstay of the place is Satri, a daughter in her mid-thrities, who is a true model of goodness who speaks very good English and is really helpful in every way. The house, in typical Newari style, was built by Mr. Sanu, who made sure to buy very good wooden furniture and sturdy bathroom fixtures which would endure and function satisfactorily due to their good quality. Excellent family! I am happily writing this on the free-in-house wi-fi network at my desk by the widnow, in the room, where the light and temperature are just right! Happy! Happy!

I visited Nepal for two months and every time I was near Kathmandu I stayed at Sanu's House. This is a comforting oasis where I felt at home right away. Sarita and her family are very kind and welcoming. Sarita and her sister cook delicious dishes that I always look forward to.

The home stay is located on the Ring Road and just about 20 minutes by tuk tuk from Ratin Park. I thought the location was great for close enough to the city when I needed to ding some preparations for a trek and distant enough from the tourist hubs. Additionally, a short walk away, Patan's artisans' works are visible in the temples and store fronts.

That's an amazing and wonderful place. I've stayed there for 2 months and everything is so beautiful. You feel like if it's your home been so comfortable there. Sarita's (the host) cooking is just great. The place itself is quiet and surrounded by hundreds of temples in the district. It's just the best place to stay in.

Located only 15 minutes from Kathmandu's International airport, and the same amount of walking time from Patan's Durbar Square, this is a wonderful place to stay.
The rooms were by far the cleanest of any of the many rooms I stayed at during my 4 months in Nepal. Sarita is a lovely woman, very gracious, kind, and a wonderful cook as well. My room, at 500R/night, also included homecooked meals for only 100R per person, an excellent value.
As well as good English, she also speaks Thai (and of course Nepali).
The only downside to the place is that it's close to a very noisy road, and there's not much to look at from any of the rooms, except other buildings.
On the plus side, there is 24 hour hot shower available, "western" toilets, and the room I had was faced away from the busy road, so I could not even hear the traffic. Any time I am going to/from Kathmandu, I know I will be staying at Sanu's homestay. There is also free internet, and free wifi was just being hooked up as well. She also offers a nice library/sitting room.
