“A lucky find”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2014

We just happened to find GOTB while driving down the coast. What a great find. We enjoyed several days there. The owner bends over backwards to make your stay enjoyable. I especially remember the impromptu fruit slushes and BBQs in the evening. There's only fried fish in town, so you'll really appreciate the extra effort he goes to to provide alternative meal choices. It's right on the cleanest and quietest beach I've ever been to in Ecuador (and I've been to several). The turtles were hatching while we were there and I understand the whales hang out right in front of the hotel starting in July. Lovely place. We even had an air conditioned room with a kitchen. Give it a try. I know we'll go back some day. No wi-fi in the room, that's the only reason for a slight downgrade.

Room Tip: It's in a quiet neighborhood, so no road noise to worry about.

This owner of this place, Daniel, was so accommodating although he was out of town when we stayed. He and the hotel manager, Argenis, ensured our stay was comfortable. Argenis picked us up from the Manta airport and he was there right on time ($20 charge). Our room was a large 2 bedroom apartment. The wifi didn't work from our room, but it worked from the pool area. The breakfast, costing an extra $3 per person, was delicious and filling. Argenis recommended the restaurant in town for dinner and it was nothing fancy, but the fried fish and ceviche were delicious and the beer cold!

After visiting Olon for a few days, we ventured up to Gringo on the Beach in San Lorenzo...As it was September, it was off season and we were among just a few guests...The wind was blowing and it was cloudy, but that was all soon forgotten after we met the owner and manager of GotB, Daniel Mistele...Daniel got us settled comfortably in our beautiful suite...The suite had all the comforts of home; a living room, two bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen and dining room...All the rooms were furnished with hand made furniture, most of it made by craftsmen who work at GotB, in GotB's own professional wood shop....The ornate doors and windows are also made by these craftsmen...GotB is a wonderland of beautiful palm trees, ornate plants of many varieties, a soccer field, swimming pool, open air dining room with full kitchen and bar service, and beachfront that will take your breath away as you watch whales breaching...as you stroll the beach you will also see pelicans, frigate birds, and protected turtle nests ...the amenities were great, but what was really outstanding and unforgettable was the personal attention we received from Daniel Mistele and the warm, friendly staff...Daniel is not only a gracious host, he is very knowledgeable of the history of Ecuador and the local area of San Lorenzo...We learned so much from him...He suggested sights we should visit while in the area as well as personally taking us to one of the biannual fiestas of San Lorenzo where we danced the night away to live music under the lights and beautifully decorated streets of San Lorenzo...Daniel also took time to drive us to Manta and Montecristi and guided us through a cloud forest near San Lorenzo...I don't know if he will have time to do this for you in season, but we felt very honored that he took so much time to make sure we had a memorable time in Ecuador...There is so much I could say about our visit that this review could turn into a novel...I will not do that to you...Thank you Daniel and staff for all the wonderful memories of our trip to San Lorenzo and Gringo on the Beach

Room Tip: There are no bad choices of rooms at GotB
