“Wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

Stayed in the Auchanross Suite last weekend following our wedding...it is spectacular! Huge room, with separate lounge, both with flat screen tv, with built in DVD players, and a good, modern DVD selection to choose from. Ensuite with heated floor, shower and bath, as well as a separate dressing room with fridge, kettle and supplies.

Everywhere is beautifully decorated, as well as being extremely comfortable and luxurious.

There was a good selection for breakfast and it was absolutely delicious! Sitting in the gorgeous dining room watching the wildlife outside and the river at the bottom of the garden just added to the atmosphere.

Ann and Alf were both welcoming and made our visit extra special! Looking forward to getting to return! I would highly recommend a visit!

Ann and Alf provide the epitome of British hospitality with the added luxury of fantastic accommodation in an enviable location.
The hospitality was second to none - both Ann and Alf were welcoming, helpful and friendly without being obtrusive in any way.
We stayed in the Ardnagaul junior suite. The suite was spacious, beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. It even offered two comfortable chairs for its two guests. The very fact that it has its own back and front doors afforded a high degree of privacy and gave the impression of "coming home" as opposed to staying in an hotel or B&B.
The food was also superb, catering to meat/fish eaters and vegetarians alike. Home cooking at its absolute best!
It was also an absolute pleasure to be able to dine in such beautiful surroundings whilst watching the river, the red squirrels, pheasants and various garden birds..
This is not the place to stay if you need the hustle and bustle of a town/city but is ideal for someone who wants a place in which to "chill out++" but still be within easy travelling distance of other things to do.

Room Tip: The junior suites offer excellent privacy with their own access from both the car park and the garde...

First class B and B set in the lovely conservation village of Strathtay. The owners, Ann and Alf, know how to provide guests with the best of everything, but in a low key, unobtrusive style. All other reviews are spot on with comments on the accommodation, standard of breakfast and evening meal, setting, entertainment from the wildlife and so on. We were a bit concerned that our teenage sons would be bored but they loved the peace and quiet of Riverwood, combined with the activity of white water rafting, quad biking and bungee jumping! Riverwood is a credit to Scottish tourism. MOJOAOEO

Lovely owners who catered well for a gluten-free diet. Excellent meal in house. Beautiful location. Stayed in the comfortable Tay 1 room - tasteful decoration and a very comfortable bed - nice view to the river. We will be back!

Anne and Alf at Riverwood are wonderful hosts, we stayed in the Auchanross Suite, which was extremely spacious and very comfortable. We had an ensuite bathroom ( with both bath and a shower), our own wee lounge, and a separate *dressing room* which had a spacious double wardrobe, a wee fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. Both the bedroom and lounge had a flat-screen tv ( with integral dvd player). Anne and Alf have quite the collection of dvds to choose from :)
The quality and choice of breakfast was fabulous, and it was great to have a relaxing breakfast while enjoying the shenanigans of the squirrels outside :) We also enjoyed a wonderful evening meal on Saturday night, Anne is a fab cook and her soda bread is to die for :)
We had a fabulous weekend, Anne and Alf made us feel very welcome and we look forward to returning for another visit.

Very impressive all round. Pretty setting, large landscaped grounds, super view of river. Large, comfy, well equiped and nicely decorated rooms. The breakfast choice and quality was excellent. The owner was very pleasant and helpful. We were'nt too keen though on having to walk around in our socks but 'hotel' slippers were available.

The evening meal from the nearby local Inn was excellent too.

Room Tip: Ours was faultless - I'm sure they're all up to this high standard.

Re the shoe 'policy', we have listened to recent guest feedback.

Our original intention at Riverwood was to create the most relaxed and peaceful environment and we thought shoes off was the way to go. Additionally, with such a variety of wildlife in close proximity to the house we were attempting to protect the interior for the benefit of all our guests.

We do however understand that some guests are more comfortable than others with shoes on/off.

It is now entirely at our guests' discretion.

This is our 1st experience of visiting a bed/breakfast, mainly brought on by watching '4 in a bed'.
It is a beautiful house in beautiful surroundings and Anne and Alf are lovely people. My own personal criticism is being met with house rules on our arrival. Being asked to remove your shoes and wear either socks or slippers provided was not, in my opinion, very welcoming.
The suite however in which we stayed was superb. It consisted of 3 separate rooms plus an en-suite. Everything was provided from water, coffee, tea, milk, biscuits - even crisps. There was also a fridge for personal use. All televisions (yes - there were 2!) have in built dvd players and there are lots of dvd's from which to choose. The bed was extremely comfortable and for anyone who like to know, there is a hairdryer provided as well as all extras in the bathroom.
Breakfast, which you chose the night before, was nothing short of superb. The choice was huge and the presentation as well as the taste was first class. The fact that it is served between 8.15am and 9.15 am on a Sunday was, we felt, very early but if I am honest it was worth getting up for!
The wildlife round the house was fabulous as, in Glasgow, we never see red squirrels and they were in abundance. The pheasants on the lawn and the outlook over the Tay was similarly superb.
If you are more than happy to discard your shoes at the door, then this is highly recommended.

Room Tip: The suite is fabulous and excellent value for money

At Riverwood we aim to create a thoroughly relaxed environment where people feel at home.

We are about as far removed from a rules-driven environment as is imaginable.

Given our aims, and the abundance of wildlife in such close proximity to our home, we thought it a good idea to encourage guests to abandon shoes at the door. Having listened to recent feedback we now leave this decision to the discretion of our guests.
