Owner description: In 1875, Colonel Samuel West Peel built a marvelous villa tower Italiante mansion on the outskirts of Bentonville, Arkansas. It was a working farmstead surrounded by 180 acres of apple trees. The Peel Mansion is an outdoor museum of heritage roses, perennials, and native plants. Various vignette gardens are interlaced among curvilinear walks and large shade trees creating a most appropriate setting for this great historic building of northwest Arkansas. Also on the site is the pre-Civil War Andy Lynch log cabin which serves as a gatehouse and gift shop at the entrance to the grounds. The cbin was moved to The Peel Mansion property from Brightwater, Arkansas, just east of Rogers.

“Great tour.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012

We took a guided tour of the mansion. The docent was excellent and knew her background information. We were allowed all over the mansion. It had a five dollar charge which was is strange for Bentonville since most things are free. It was worth the $5.00. The grounds were beautiful and well kept.

This was a great place to spend the afternoon. The Gardens were beautiful, the home was interesting and the lunch provided by the Mansion was delicious. Staff was helpful and we loved our tour.

“History first hand”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2012

Colonel Samuel W. Peel was a part of the history of Bentonville, Arkansas and the United States. His 1875 home was once the site of Indian meetings with the government, as they came from the Indian Territory, in what is now Oklahoma, and gathered on the Peel property for treaty meetings while Congressman Peel who was part of the committee that dealt with Indian Affairs. The grounds are filled with beautiful flowers and even have a vegtiable garden representative of the type Mrs Peel kept. A full time staff maintains the grounds and interior which is rented for special occassions. Sitting between Walmart Headquarters and a Walmart store on US Hwy 71 Business, it is easy to locate with ample parking. If you are in need of a refreshing garden walk, stop by and enjoy Peel House.
