My wife and I got into Winslow from Flagstaff quite late, via Sedona. Our intention was to stand on a corner in the time honoured way. It was late and we were tired and stopped here at this motel. It was almost opposite Safeway, which was handy for stocking up on essetials etc. My wife went to check the cost and availability of accomodation. I stayed with the motor. Unfortunately, due to her tiredness, she walked into a plate glass window to the left of the door. In the dim light and her being tired (I guess) she never realised it was there. No-one from the proprietor side offered her assistance, but a kindly fellow traveller did. I never saw it, being in the motor. We booked in though and made ourselves comfortable. Never again!! The carpet was heaving with muck and oil stains, as if someone had just serviced a Harley on it, it was covered in stains and I kept my boots on all the time I had to walk around on it. The pillows were filthy, as was the mattress. I couldn't help feeling itchy all night and had an idea there were bugs in the bed. Yuk!! The toliet flush lever broke off in my hand, so I had to lift the lid off the cistern and flush by hand each time, and also show my wife how to do that too. There were no creature comforts, ie, no shampoo etc, or tissues in the tissue dispenser. All in all it was a real crummy dump. As I checke out the following morning, I told the proprietor that the toilet flush had snapped off in my hand and that it needed fixing (it looked like it had been superglued before). He hunched his shoulders and said not a word. Nor did he enquire about the bruise on my ladies head. Also the place had a strong smell of curry, when we booked and at breakfast time, not that we had any breakfast as it wasn't offered. This motel was a dump and after that experience, we resolved not to stay in any motel that smelled of curry and was below 60 bucks. Following our new rules we had no more disapointing moments, It is quite true, you gets what you pays for. Good luck reader. :-)

Was traveling through Arizona and needed a place to stay for the night (and wanted to stand on the corner and take it easy!). Arrived late and stayed at the first place I saw, plus it was located near a couple other motels and some fast food places. The room rate was very, very cheap ($35.00/night for one person), so I guess you get what you pay for. The room I was in had a funny odor, but I think that it was the cleaning solution they used (at least I hope that's what I hope that it was!). At least the room was in an inside corridor, which made me feel a little safer, but there were definetly no perks for that price - not even complimentary shampoo and soap! The room I was in had burn holes and stains on the entire carpet, so I was afraid to walk around in my barefeet. The bed seemed O.K., and I even checked under the mattress to look for the dreaded bedbug. Slept fine and checked out the next morning. That's when I got a good look at the town itself, and noticed that it's a pretty run down town, so it's no surprise that the motel was run down too. If I was in the area again I would try to stay at the Best Western located right next to the Motel 6, even if I have to pay a little more. But then again, it could be just as bad for all I know.
Actually, I would never stay in this town again - I'd just go stand on the corner and get out of there!
