“The most unusual place you will stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2012

We stopped here not knowing the treat we were in for. You wont want to leave. The rooms vary quite a bit. They are all unique. We stayed in the lowest priced room but it was still beautiful. This place is expensive but so fantastic its well worth it.

Room Tip: stay on a weekday when you will have a choice of rooms

We spent just one night at this very special place and left wishing we had booked another night.
The grounds are beautiful and it would take a full day to appreciate the building itself. There are so many nooks and crannies each one filled with a new adventure. The rooms are named after famous people who have visited and fun to stay in.
I will be going back!

My wife and I spent a delightful night at the La Posada in May..sorry for the tardy review.
The hotel is a grand old railroad hotel designed by Mary Jane Colter. It has been lovingly restored by its current owners and is Top Notch is every regard.

Each room has a name. We stayed in the Mary Jane Colter room and were very pleased with its size, appearance and little balcony.

The common areas of the hotel provide many "Kodak moments" with neat architecture, flowery courtyards, an art gallery, a fantastic gift shop and more.

The Turquoise Room is a World Class restaurant in sleppy little Winslow. We had lunch, dinner and breakfast there and were blown away by the food, service and atmosphere.

Hats off to La Posada!

Room Tip: Make your reservation by phone. You will probably be talking to the owner. Ask his advise.

History oozes from the walls of this wonderfully restored hotel. Not your typical hotel. One can get lost for hours looking at the artwork, artifacts and furnishings in the common areas, lobby, wings, public rooms, nooks and crannies. Even the rooms are architectural marvels in this one time Fred Harvey hotel and masterpiece of architect Mary Colter. The rooms are wonderfully furnished and comfortable. Despite the ambiance and the popularity of this hotel, I thought the price was very reasonable. Also, it's close (5 minute walk) to the "Standin' on a corner in Winslow Arizona" attraction. I hope to come back to this hotel.

Room Tip: Be persistant if you get wait listed when you make reservations. Toward the end, my wife was calling...

I can't say enough good things about this hotel. This was our second time staying. This time, we came back to Winslow just to spend a few days here. This is not in any way shape or form your standard hotel. I like the Marriot Courtyards, too. But this is so much more special. The building itself is magnificent and the restoration is just amazing. The art is wonderful and it is really a privilege to be able to enjoy it whenever you'd like. There truly is a family atmosphere here and the price is certainly right!

Stopped in Winslow on a trip between Albuquerque and Flagstaff after visiting the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert. La Posada is a renovated old railroad hotel. Spanish hacienda style on the outside and eccentrically decorated inside with interesting art and furniture. Our room was a bit small but nicely done and big enough for two. Nice gardens in various nooks. But for me the highlight was the trains. The BNSF passes out back - which used to be the front where passengers got off - and there are benches and chairs, including two rockers, to sit and watch the trains go by. AMTRAK stops in the evening and morning traveling along the old Santa Fe RR route between Chicago and LA. And, oh yeah, La Posada is just a block from that famous corner in Winslow Arizona.

Room Tip: Make a reservation at the restaurant before arriving,

If you are ever in Winslow, this is the place to stay! Overall, this hotel provides a special experience as every room is different in both decor and theme. The baths are a beautiful surprise as well as the woodwork and tiling in every room. If you are traveling with a group, be forewarned, there is no way to set up wake up calls for the rooms because none of the rooms are equipped with phones. As tour guides, we had to set the alarm clocks ourselves (some of which were broken and didn't even work), in each individual room which takes a very long time. Also, there is no fitness center onsite and no elevator. However, these cons are vastly outweighed by the pros of the charm of the place, its unique architecture, an art gallery, a gift shop filled with lovely handicrafts, the beautiful gardens, multiple outdoor patio seating areas, and the environmentally friendly practices of avoiding the use of daily disposable toiletries in the rooms. Staying at the La Posada is a once in a lifetime opportunity that you should take advantage of.
