We had been here a couple of years ago and returned to LaPasoda just to eat at the Turquoise Room. We had a reservation; upon arrival told they were cleaning the empty table....fifteen minutes later we were seated. When we sat down I noted a man at the next table had eaten only meat; the uneaten vegatables and potato circled the plate. My husband ordered the prime rib and declares it the best he has ever eaten, HOWEVER, he also had the circle of vegetables and potato when finished. His quote "how can you mess up a baked potato?". The vegetables were slimy. I had the excellent Maytag blue cheese salad. Their signature soup is a lovely presentation of half corn soup on one side of the bowl and black bean soup on the other. The corn soup was as wonderful as I remembered, the black bean soup was so spicy I could not eat it. I would have mentioned this to the waitress if she had ever come by the table. Oh well, concentrate on the good, right? We ordered dessert. My carrot cake was so dry and crumbly I would not eat it. After waiting 10 minutes for our waitress to reappear we finally asked another waitress to find her. Our waitress appeared out of the kitchen, glanced at the cake and said "I thought it looked dry, it's usually moist". I believe part of the waitress job is to assess the plate before she delivers it and to check back to see if things are "ok". My husband offered his credit card for payment as he was afraid she might not return. After she brought the ticket for signature and left. After my husband signed it, I glanced at the bill and noted an $8.50 glass of wine. We had no wine. My husband roamed the dining room and bar and could not find any wait staff. Finally someone came from the kitchen and we sent her to find our elusive waitress. She took the signed credit card slip and returned with a new slip for signature. I asked for the previous one that had been signed. She stated, "oh, I threw that one away". We gave up!
The next morning we tried again for breakfast. Suffice to say the quality was diner quality and the service was much worse than diner quality. After our third request, my husband's english muffin finally appeared after his meal was finished. The waitress told us the toaster was old.
