“Great value and good service”

We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Williams Christmas day. Check in was fast, hotel room was clean and good size. I was impressed at the value for the money we paid. Two thumbs up to the Holiday Inn in Williams! The train ride to the Grand Canyon is highly recommended. Club class has "beverages"!!

“Was I Being Punked?”

We used our hotel points for a free room and were supposed to be upgraded to the nicest room they had. I don't think that happened as we just got a basic room on the second floor - right in front of the ice and vending machines AND the stairway. This made for a looong loud night. (What is it with people and letting their kids run down the hall screaming in the middle of the night? But I digress....)

Our first room had a serious leak in the window. So much so that the plaster was bulging and about to crumble. We called the front desk who sent a repair man (he didn't speak English but we were able to show him) and he said he couldn't repair it. We had to then go ask for another room as apparently they weren't going to change it. When my husband went to ask for the room, the three desk clerks were engaged in a personal conversation. Thinking they would stop, he waited for a couple minutes and then finally sarcastically said he was sorry to interrupt. They were put out and said it was OK.

We then did get the second floor room. However, the front desk service never did improve. They wouldn't give us another towel and said it had to be sent up - it never was. They ran out of pool towels - even though there was only one other family in the pool. We left early in the morning to go to Flagstaff and asked to have our room cleaned first so it would be clean when we got back late that afternoon. It wasn't cleaned . The lobby was always dirty - including spilled food on the floor and I don't think it was cleaned at all during our two day stay. The final straw was when we went to check out early in the morning. The desk clerk was chatting with another customer and both were sitting in the lobby on a couch. The clerk turned to me as I stood there waiting and said she'd be just a minute but then she just sat there continuing on with her chat. I finally walked out without paying for the rollaway bed and she just kept right on talking. This place needs some serious management intervention!

I do plan on going back to Williams but I doubt I would stay here again.

I booked this hotel, based upon travel between California and The Grand Canyon, and found it to be a exceptionally nice hotel, location, and overall pleasant stay. My wife & 3 kids were delighted that it was clean, well maintained and the entire staff were pleasant, friendly & warm.

I will recommend this to friends & family making similiar trips to the Grand Canyon.

We stayed here while we were in Williams for the Polar Express on the Grand Canyon railroad. That was great! The kids loved it and so did all the adults. The hotel was a little older looking on the outside but the inside was very clean as were the rooms. They seemed a bit under staffed for the influx of all the guests coming for the first week of the Polar Express but were prompt and quick when checking us in and attending to our needs. The pool is heated and located indoors so is usable all year around - liked that. Gave us something to wear the kids out a bit since we had several hours before the Polar Express train ride. My only complaint was the attached restaurant - Doc Holliday's Steakhouse. The food itself was very tasty. The service was extremely slow and acted as if they didn't want to be there. Granted we were a party of 10 but we were one group out of only 3 in the restaurant at the time. The childrens menu had too few choices. The hours state that they stay open til 10pm but the staff started to shut things down at 9pm and seemed 'put out' when we decided to order dessert at the end of our meal. They also automatically add the tip to your bill - regardless of party size...we found out the that party of 3 at the next table had the tip added automatically to there bill also so it wasn't just for large parties as most restaurants do. In short we would stay at the hotel again but not eat at Doc Holliday's Steakhouse again...walk a block to historic Williams and choose from several different others - including Chinese, Mexican and diners.
