“Not as advertised”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2005

This property advertised complimentary continental breakfast and free daily newspaper on it's webpage. However, it had neither. Their excuse for no complimentary continental breakfast was that they stopped it last year. When I presented a print-out of their web site, which shows "complimentary continental breakfast", they gave us each a coupon for breakfast at their restaurant. The "free breakfast" unfortunately turned out to be only 1 free muffin and 1 free drink!!! Not a substantial enough meal especially for our teens!! The excuse for no free newspaper was the 2 - 3 inches of snow that fell the night before. Note that 3 inches of snow is not unusual for the Williams/Flagstaff AZ area. The property looks nice driving in, but the rooms are average. The rooms are large enough, with nice furniture, clean, a separate sink outside the bathroom. Get a room on the 2nd floor for the best views of the mountains. The property is older, but has been remodeled several times. There is no high speed internet access.

I agree with the last reviewer. The hotel did appear to be from the 1970's with it's thick shag carpet. The room was okay not very clean. I base that comment on the restroom specifically. There was hair on the floor and some on the walls of the shower. My husband didn't let me complain because he was tired and honestly we didn't know where else to go. We didn't pay much for the room which made it easier to swallow. At check out I recieved no thank you for staying with us or anything. I'm not sure if the young man at the counter could even talk as he said not two words to me. Never again!

Received a "scary room" on the first floor. The toilet didn't flush and the whole room was right out of the 70's. Didn't feel safe with the double doors especially with the eery alley behind the room. After complaining about the room I was moved to the second floor, which was 100% better.

Driving into the hotel gave the impression of a really nice property. But the rooms, while large, are getting 'long in the tooth', but acceptable.

But what really ticked me off was their so-called Continental breakfast. They evidently only put out the typical buffet if they have a tour bus, otherwise you get EITHER one muffin, toast, or Danish and coffee, juice, OR milk. A dried roll and a cup of coffee is not up to the Choice hotels standard for a free breakfast.

Pretty hiking trails directly behing the hotel was enjoyable at sunrise.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2004

Not sure where the previous reviewer stayed but we also stayed for two nights in mid-April, 2004 after visiting the Grand Canyon. Our accomodations were great, especially for a family. The room was large and roomy and very clean, not like other franchise establishments where you barely have room to walk around the beds. There are various activities to keep the kids occupied such as a tennis court, basketball hoop, swimming pool and horseback riding. My only complaint would be that with so much room available the pool could have been much larger, it was quite small for such a large hotel. The restaurant was clean, quaintly decorated in a western theme, reasonable and very good. We chose to eat at the restaurant rather than travel into town for meals.
An added bonus, for those of you who took the train to the GC and saw the western show, is that you might see the "Marshal" wandering around the hotel. The "Marshal" was very personable with the kids and they are still talking about him several days after being back home. Thank you Marshal Goodmore for such great memories! If you are looking for a 5 star resort to cater to your every need, this probably won't suit you, but it you are traveling with kids and want a clean establishment with great ambiance, I highly recommend it!
