Although there was a slight hiccup with our previously booked room when we arrived late in the evening (we should have phoned ahead to confirm our booking) which meant we had the last room available which didnt have any en-suite facilities we only have fond memories of this great hotel in a great example of small town america on the old route 66. The two owners (who's names i cannot remember now) were the perfect hosts and bent over backwards to make our stay as pleasent as possible. The hotel itself was vey quaint with many nice touches and real throw back to the days of a bygone era. I could have quiet easily stayed there for a more than the two nights we were there for especially in such a nice town as Williams. Overall i couldnt ask for any more and i would love to go back some day.

“Great stay - a quaint, quirky original”

We planned a trip to Grand Canyon on slightly short notice so none of the hotels in or near the Grand Canyon were available. We decided to stay in Williams which was about an hour drive to there.

Grand Canyon Hotel was perfect for us. It is quaint yet quirky: a long-time hotel recently renovated by its current owners. All the rooms have themes: for example, we stayed in the Nautical Room with vintage sailor uniforms, ship paintings on the wall and an ocean-scene shower curtain.

This hotel is an original - there are no TVs and phones in the room. There is not wireless internet. There is a common area with TV and a computer for guests' use. They have parking in the back.

Williams, in general, is a little loud. There is street cleaning in the morning and there is a train line that runs through most of the town and you may hear an occassional train go through at night but this is true in most of the Williams area that runs along Route 66.

The area around GCH was fun... lots of souvenier stores, a great Mexican restaurant, a wonderful family restaurant with an amazing variety of pies and desserts.

We found Grand Canyon Hotel a different and charming place to stay. The owners are very attentive, fun to chat with and can provide great recommendations around the area. But it is not for everyone... people who want a cookie-cutter place or need all of the usual hotel amenities will be disappointed. But if you want something different with old school character, this is the place for you.

I wound up in town after visiting the Grand Canyon. I like to look for a Hotel that gives a good taste of the local town. As I was walking down Rt 66 Looking for a place to stay I saw the Grand Canyon Hotel and inquired about a room. I found out that it is the oldest hotel in Arizona. When I asked about the rooms I was suprised to find out that they have all types of room meeting all types of budgets. Shen then asked me what type of room I wanted and wrote down the numbers and told me I could pick any of the rooms. I have never had this happen to me before and I must say it was great to pick out a room "I" wanted. Each room has a different theme. I found a room I liked and that was the room I got. The room was great and very well done, it was the WW1 room and the items in the room were cool. I loved the look and feel of the hotel. The owner was the one I was talking to. She was extremely nice and helpful in every way. I was riding a motorcycle and she let me park it right near the back door because there was a camera there so my bike would be safe. After I showered she recommended several places to eat and even gave me a coupon for one of the restaurants. They also have free internet. When I get back to the Grand Canyon I wil definately stay at this hotel. You can't beat the price, location, feel, historic significance, and most of all the great owners. If you are looking for a hotel in Williams, AZ you can not go wrong!

“Grand Canyon Hotel-very cool!”

Grand Canyon Hotel

Nov 12, 2007

We loved this place. It may not be for the person looking for the usual boring motel. It has a lot of charactor, Beautifully restored to it's original late 1800's roots. It was immaculate, and the owners were very helpful. We took the Amtrak and Oscar met us at the train (5 miles out of town). It comes in late at night, and Amy brought us to the shuttle to go home in the very early morning. It has a cafe, reasonably priced, for breakfast & lunch. No TV in the room, I loved this! There is a community room with TV and internet access. If you like history and want to step back in time, this is a good place to do it. Located in central Downtown Williams, it is convenient to walk to Visitor's Center , shops and restaurants.

“Perfect hotel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Grand Canyon Hotel

Nov 12, 2007

What an amazing find. We had travelled to Williams coming from the Grand Canyon, and had trawled around a bit looking at the general chain hotels looking for somewhere to stay, and they were all a bit expensive. Drove past this one, nearly didn't stop as didn't look much from the outside, but SO glad we went in. This is my idea of a perfect hotel, especially after the countless motels we had stopped in over the past couple of months. I got to go in and choose our room (hurrah!) and, after much debate as they are all great, went for the romantic, with a beautiful free standing bath. Well, anyway, we ended up staying 3 nights, not the quick stopover we had intended, and this was purely down to the hotel and fabulous hospitality. it was all so relaxed, and we spent our days playing the board games and reading the books supplied, going for strolls and dozing in our room. After the hecticness of the national parks, this was perfect. Would recommend to anyone in the area - GO! i would be surprised if we ever make it back to Williams, but will be making an effort some day as this is the best hotel i have stayed in, ever. Who needs 5*s???!!! Thanks
