Our visit to the Grand Canyon on May 23 - 26, 2007 was marred by the very bad food served at Max and Thelma's Buffet. This is a situation that requires a serious review by the management. On Thursday, 5/24/07, using our voucher's for dinner at Max and Thelma’s, which is part of the Rails to the Rim Package. My husband had the buffet Prime rib, (or so it was called), the meat was so tough you literally couldn't cut through it with a steak knife. I had the Roast Pork Loin, which looked good, but was flavorless and dry. The next morning for breakfast I had the oatmeal, I'm not sure how to describe that particular texture, gooey comes to mind, it was inedible. Friday night, again using our voucher's (you’re stuck with these vouchers). We tried the Catfish and Hush Puppies. The catfish was breaded, and possibly deep fried, as was the hush puppies. I don't know where they got that catfish the skin was left on and breaded over. Anyone having ever caught/cleaned and cooked catfish knows that skin must be removed, because it's muddy tasting, and smells very bad. Neither of us could eat it, or the Hush Puppies, a deep fried corn meal with absolutely no seasoning for flavor. So we paid with our voucher's and vowed to never return. Service was not very good either. We went over to the Hotel and ordered pizza and nacho's at Spencer’s.
