This motel was definitely the low point of our trip to the Grand Canyon. Upon arrival at the Grand Motel we were so shocked by the outside condition, we drove past it and around the block to be sure we had the right place. The vast majority of the reviews we read loved the motel. However, when we made the reservations with the owner, he made no mention of it being under repairs and repainting. The entire parking lot was trashed, and was without a doubt the worst looking motel in the entire town. When we told the owner (Elton), we were not pleased, we were told we could stay or pay a cancellation fee, which we did. Asking why we had not been told of the conditions when we booked the room, he told us, "You want to stay at the Ritz, you have to pay more money!" A very inconsiderate host and a rude owner. We were told later he had just bought the place, and all the posted reviews are from the old owner, and were not his. If you like big disappointments and rude owners, this is the place to stay.

I would of loved to seen a video of our faces when we pulled into the motel parking lot. I'm sure our eyes were huge and our mouths were open. Then we all had a nervous laugh of - oh my, what a dump. We asked to see our room first and although everything looked dumpy it did appear clean. Many reviews talked about the great openair breakfast, but we were asked to pick our breakfast out of baskets at the front desk the night of check in. I was told one price over the phone but another price when we checked in..$20 higher. The man (maybe Bob) checking us in said it was still a better price then other motels in town. I'm sure this is true, but that is not the point. I asked him if he would email me a confirmation when I made the reservation over the phone, but was told they don't do that. Although, he was friendly and helpful when we asked about the area. We had a 3 rooms but only one heating/AC unit. I roasted in my room with the heater while the others were cold in their rooms. Well, hey, I guess it's all part of the road trip experience. We can laugh about it now.

it's been awail sents are stay but Hubby & I in joyed are stay at this motel is very clean & quite place to stay wail your visting williams area ,and Bob is a very nice person to meet ,and breakfest was so good , I like the idea of the fridge & micowave in the room made it fill like home ,and safeways just down the street we will stay again ,Thanks Bob

Stayed here with our children in 2 rooms. I am guessing that there are different types of rooms that may determine how happy you are with the property- because I missed the charming part of this motel. I kept thinking that it was my grandmothers hours 30 years ago, and I was compelled to wash my hands more often than usual, and didn't go barefoot. A couple of facts worth noting: I asked about breakfast, and Bob said- "We don't do breakfast when it's this cold". Ironically, the highway sign right behind him said BEST BREAKFAST. No mention of breakfast in our room, no mention of anything similar to what previous reviewers have been so excited about with the breakfast. It really struck me as an old place that was just, old. The tub in one of the rooms had so much water under the vinyl liner while showering that each of my children asked to stand on it to experience what their mother described as a rocking ship (they were not allowed to). I had to switch out lightbulbs to get enough light in the bathroom to see- it started with a 40 watt bulb in a 2 bulb fixture. Maybe it's charm to some travelers, everyone's different, but our expectations were not met by this motel.

We booked the room thanks to trip advisor and I'm wondering who the folks are that gave such high marks? We would not recommend the motel to anyone, or stay there again. Our next night at the Cameron Trading Post was very good and the same price for 2 HUGE rooms.

At the risk of the owner surfing my previous reviews or creating a story to make me look bad and discredit my ability to review the property, I feel compelled (several weeks after traveling) to highlight these issues for other traveling families.

I would recommend you look at your room before officially checking in- something that we were not offered.
