Stayed here with our children in 2 rooms. I am guessing that there are different types of rooms that may determine how happy you are with the property- because I missed the charming part of this motel. I kept thinking that it was my grandmothers hours 30 years ago, and I was compelled to wash my hands more often than usual, and didn't go barefoot. A couple of facts worth noting: I asked about breakfast, and Bob said- "We don't do breakfast when it's this cold". Ironically, the highway sign right behind him said BEST BREAKFAST. No mention of breakfast in our room, no mention of anything similar to what previous reviewers have been so excited about with the breakfast. It really struck me as an old place that was just, old. The tub in one of the rooms had so much water under the vinyl liner while showering that each of my children asked to stand on it to experience what their mother described as a rocking ship (they were not allowed to). I had to switch out lightbulbs to get enough light in the bathroom to see- it started with a 40 watt bulb in a 2 bulb fixture. Maybe it's charm to some travelers, everyone's different, but our expectations were not met by this motel.

We booked the room thanks to trip advisor and I'm wondering who the folks are that gave such high marks? We would not recommend the motel to anyone, or stay there again. Our next night at the Cameron Trading Post was very good and the same price for 2 HUGE rooms.

At the risk of the owner surfing my previous reviews or creating a story to make me look bad and discredit my ability to review the property, I feel compelled (several weeks after traveling) to highlight these issues for other traveling families.

I would recommend you look at your room before officially checking in- something that we were not offered.

This customer stayed with us on a sold out very cold night (daily low of 15 and daily high of 55) (March 19, 2008) in 2 rooms. They had room 8 with the tub liner with some water under the liner (only room with that and they were told about it when they registered) and 1 queen bed. They also had room 17 that has 2 double beds and 1 single bed in a suite. Room 8 was $48.55 and Room 17 was $70.12 -plus tax. All rooms have coffee makers, microwaves, and refrigerators. Room 17 has 2 TV's with cable and WI-Fi. Coffee and tea is provided in March at no cost. Continental Breakfast is avialable on request at a charge of $3.50 per person in your room. I recommend Old Smokeys for breakfast. The carpets (they are old) are scrubed and shampooed every month. Our housekeeping is paid by the hour and told not to leave the rooms until they are clean. I ask every guest when they check out if they had any problems with their room. Their were no complaints for this stay or any other in March. Old Route 66 motels are not for every one, and if they did not like the room after checking in, I would have gladly reversed their charges. I want all my guests to have a good stay.

My husband and I stayed here for 2+ weeks while waiting for our rental home to be ready.

We stayed in room #1....This room is really great for extended stays...Spacious....Comfortable....and Clean, oh I can't forget to mention Warm..you do wait a few minutes for the hot water to come over, but when it does that shower is great. Even our cat loved her visit here.

Bob is an excellent host...We would recommend anyone to stay here...and when you do...Don't forget to say hi to little Lucy.
This sure is a GRAND MOTEL.

I was expecting the place to be a disaster after arriving. I had to wait to check in and was a little put off by the appearance. After I checked in and was let into my room I was pleasantly surprised. The furniture was all antique but the bedding was fresh, new, and comfortable. The outdoor breakfast was a highlight of our stay. It was fun to sit with fellow travelers and the owner and enjoy breakfast. It is within walking distance of dinning, shopping, and entertainment. If you want to avoid the high prices of the Grand Canyon and don’t mind the hour drive to get back and forth to the Park it is a great value.

If you do your homework then you will get what you expected. A taste of nostalgia but with mod cons, clean comfortable beds, constant hot water and a host that can answer all your questions. We stayed 2 nights and enjoyed an openair breakfast on the first day but as the weather had deteriorated Bob left a list to order breakfast and brought it to our room - wonderful! We enjoyed our stay, thank you Bob.
