After staying two nights at a superb B&B in Twenty nine Palms, my husband and I eagerly looked forward to enjoying equal hospitality at Legacies B&B. Unfortunately this was not the case. On arrival (there is a uncompromising check in time of 4pm-6pm)we rang the bell only to be "greeted" by a curt nod of the head from the owner Linda. No smile in evidence at any time during our stay. Strict "instructions" were given as to what we were allowed to do - from the locking of the suite room to the heating. These were endosed by many post it notes around the room. If one had the idea to light the candles in the suite, dire warnings of a fee were to be noted! Obviousy past guests had in fact used said candles but I have no idea whether they were charged or forgiven!! To be fair the suite we booked (honeymoon suite, although it was our 30th annivesary!) was extremely clean with a large four poster type bed. Unfortunately, this was sited on a plinth which was a bit of a problem when visiting the bathroom during the night. Both nights had my husband and I falling down the step in the dark!!
Breakfast was not good and could only be taken at 8.30 on the dot. Self service tea/coffee facilities was available only at breakfast time, with our own tea bags as no English tea provided,When my husband asked for a clean mug at breakfast as none were available, he was given more pursed lip treatment from our hostess. Ron, the co owner seemed quite affable and gave advice when asked.
For just under $430 for two nights I would have expected a more friendly stay. We were lucky that 4 very nice Americans were also staying at the same time which helped the sterile atmosphere somewhat. I dont usually find fault but felt disappointed in Legacies.
