To be honest we booked this hotel because we were only staying one night and this was the only place in the park with rooms available.
When we got there it was easy to find and the check in/check out was efficient. The entrance to the reception was exactly how I imagined; made from stone and timber and I had expected the room to be similar but the block was actually just the same as any other motel.
The room itself was clean and provided us with a fridge, toiletries and coffee making facilities. There was no air conditioning but there were two fans - although one did not work. We were actually both too hot during the night and woke early unable to get back to sleep, so we decided to go and watch the sunrise and then continue with our journey.
The room was a few minutes walk from the rim of the canyon and is a short walk to the ideal place to watch the sunset.
There are a number of options for food within the park, but as we were only there one night we decided the cafeteria in the lodge was the easiest and seemingly offered a range of different foods to cater for all tastes.
When we arrived just before 8pm, the cafeteria was extremely busy and we could not get a seat so we decided to go and have a drink in the bar until things quietened down. When we finally managed to find a space, around half an hour later, we went to get our food.
Frankly the food was expensive and well below what we could have expected, the portions were also much smaller than you would usually expect in the states.
There were several different counters but in each case the food had been mass-produced and lacked any kind of taste. The pasta and bolognaise sauce was actually reheated in the microwave in front of us!
All in all for one night the hotel was adequate and is located close to the rim but I would firmly recommend avoiding the cafeteria and go to one of the other restaurants.
