Family of 2 adults and 1 teen on a two week, 5,000 mile road trip around the southwest. We arrived at the Maswik Lodge at 3:20 pm. We were greeted and on our way to our room within minutes even though check in wasn't supposed to be until 4:00. Every employeee that we came into contact with was very polite and helpful. We were in the Mesquite building on the north side. The room had two queen beds, refrigerator , air conditioner and a 4 cup coffee maker. We had no trouble finding a parking space directly in front of our building. The room was clean, spacious, comfortable and quiet. Our view was of the woods and train tracks. We did hear the train pass a few times but it wasn't loud enough to bother us. Everytime we left our room we saw elk or deer. The elk kept their distance but the deer approached us quite often. The Maswik has a small gift shop, cafeteria and lounge. The cafeteria food was equal to hospital food and the prices were a bit steep but it's the Grand Canyon so that is to be expected. They had a sandwich station, pasta station, Mexican food and hot dinners that included chili, turkey with stuffing, chicken, etc. Plenty of options for the whole family. Beer and wine are also available and were each priced at around $5.00 per small bottle. As sub sandwich was $5.98 and the hot dinners were about $10.00. Two well drinks at the lounge cost us $12. I can't comment on breakfast as we didn't eat there. Prices in the gift shop were reasonable. The walk to the rim was a bit further than we had expected and included some stairs. Not too bad though. We stayed one night and the cost was $172.91 after taxes for our standard two queen north. We made the reservation six months in advance. This place was quite nice and we will definitely make the trip back to the canyon and stay here again!
