We go to the canyon often because we live close. After a day of trekking around the canyon, we thought we'd stop at a steakhouse because we needed the protein.
Tusayan doesn't have much by way of great food. It's somewhat disappointing because a great restaurant would be slammed (busy) all the time.
Big E Steakhouse reminds me of all the mom & pop places in most local towns. Tusayan is small...very small. The locals and family work here. It's not a franchise restaurant. They hustle and do a pretty good job. The food is good, and hot. They don't tend to customers too much when it's busy, so if you get a chance to talk to a waiter or waitress, grab one.
The bar is really sub-par (small and largely unattended), and the bathroom (just one per gender) is rather ridiculous for such a large occupation area. But if you want a good steak (not great) and some good western local hospitality, this is the place to go.
Smile a lot, and don't look grouchy, it'll get you further.
