“Overpriced and mediocre”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

The location to the park is good. The hotel was old- they were doing some renovation- poor timing- the hotel was packed. They were not prepared for a "full" house- why not? it was spring break. The rooms were old- beds too soft.
The restaurant was understaffed so we couldn't get in the first night and the food and service was terrible the next night.
Parking and location good.

This hotel is by no means anything special. The reception area is nice and the bar is decent, but the restaurant is dark and serves mediocre food and the pool is very small. The rooms are OK - clean and spacious, but nothing above-average. The only thing this hotel has going for it is the location - it provides very convenient access to the Grand Canyon Park South Rim entrance. Because there are a finite number of hotel rooms in Tusayan and a steady flow of tourists to the area, the Grand Hotel can charge whatever they want. In a more average location, our room would have been under $100. In Tusayan, we paid $200 (including taxes) for a very average room. If you can't stay in the park but still want to be close, just be prepared to pay for the location and don't expect much else.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the front - all the mechanicals are around back and make a lot of noise. We ha...

This hotel is a very decent place to stay if you want to visit Grand Canyon national park, and are unable to get the reservation for some of the in-the-park properties. Given the fact that the town has but a few thousand people living, and that it is some 6 miles from the South Rim entrance to the park and the Mather point, and less than a mile from Tusayan airport where many of the helicopter tours start from.
Room was nice, clean, with everything I needed for a short stay. Just be aware of one thing when in Tusayan - everything closes around 9. Not sure if that was because of the Easter weekend or if it is normal, but trying to find something to eat was a challenge. You want to maximize your stay at the canyon, see the sunset etc, which pushes you dangerously close to the closing times... Now, you won't die of hunger, because there is a bar with some snacks available to you, but don't count on any kind of serious dinner.

Well where do I start, well I'll start at the point where we first booked in, we got in our room and it was freezing, now I'm not being picky and I did know it would be cold out there but I also hoped that as they knew we were due to arrive our rm might be warm and cosey,no not a chance, anyway we settled in had a look around to find out what was what,we went for a meal not too bad average, the kids were worn out from the travelling so we took them back to the room and got them settled.we then decided to go and have a drink at the bar,we didn't intend staying too long as we were bushed also, good job as we got the feeling we should drink up ,the bar maid got impatient with us,she said that when the bar is empty they close down at 9.30,now that really ...... Us off,we were on holiday felt more like prison, come on manager sort it out it's a holiday destination people want to stay out later than that, that's your line of work and you need to do a better job,.the breakfast in the morning was horrible,we ate in a large cold badly lit room, plates were cold food cold, worst I have ever had, would not recommend would not go back, the hotel across the road is far better we stayed last yr,no wonder some places fold they are badly run, hope you can drag yourselves back up

Stayed here for 2 nights, expensive at $98 a night, nice scenic hotel, rooms were clean and big, check-in staff were excellent, I ate in the bar area, where the staff were friendly and service excellent. Tried to have a breakfast in the restaurant, shown a table then waited for at least 10mins, nothing happened, waiters continually passed me, so got and had breakfast up the road.

Great location, scenic hotel, but wouldn't stay there again.

We booked this hotel for a one night stopover on a bit of a whim as it looked like a real "wild west" experience based on the reviews & web site - we were not disappointed. From the minute you enter the lobby with the open fireplace & saloon bar feel (yes with fake animal heads mounted on the walls) we felt like we were truly in a hotel with a difference. We booked the Grand Suite for our family of 4 & the room was huge. It had been snowing & the room was quite warm & cozy when we checked in with a King bed & pull out sofa bed & 2 TV's. The kids enjoyed the indoor heated pool though it was not overly warm & there is a coin operated laundry if you need to wash. We ate a buffet breakfast in the restaurant in the morning which had a good variety but wasn't the best food we had eaten in our travels. The staff were ok but not very friendly. The entrance to the Grand Canyon South Rim was literally a 5 minute drive & there were several options in Tusayan Village to eat out if you want to. Overall The location was perfect for us. We enjoyed our stay & the price was good value & what we expected to pay for this hotel.

Beautifully decorated, very nice clean room, fireplace and common area in lobby was nice. Restaurant, coffee shop and gift shop part of complex. Great dinner in restaurant, a little pricey but expected for area. The service in the hotel, coffee shop and restaurant were sub par for the price. Not rude, just not very friendly or attentive. Neat to have live music at dinner-older country singer gave it that rustic western feel. Convenient location near stores, about ten minutes from Grand Canyon.
