“Not Great, not bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Pros: Front desk upon checking in was very friendly and accommodating. Lobby is very attractive.
Gal in gift shop/snack bar very friendly, Waiter in Canyon Star - very friendly.
Property looks nice from the street. Bed was very comfortable.

Cons: the whole place is light with fluorescent lights...they are awful. Rooms are a bit shabby, hallway carpets were filthy, chair in our room was dusty! Shower was slippery and the faucet when in the shower position squealed. Room heaters are circa 1960 and are loud and inefficient.

Room Tip: The rooms with balconies are a little bigger than other kings room, but face the street which could...

“The hotel is beautiful....the service poor”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

I first want to say that the hotel is a nice property. The loby is fun and the rooms were clean and nicely appointed but the servce had much to be desired. We may have just had an unfortunate night but I wanted to make sure others were aware of what might happen to them. I was told by a local after our poor night stay that the hotel which used to be family owned is now owned and run by the company who runs the services in the grand canyon. My understanding from this person was that overflow from the park ( and large bus loads of visitors) are sent to this hotel. The night we stayed there ther were 5 busloads of foreign teenagers staying there. They were loud and disruptive into the night and are likely the cause of our 2 hang up calls made from within the hotel (after the second I took the phone off the hook) I called the front desk to complain and they assured me they had extra security but I am not sure exactly what they were doing. Our room was totally surrounded by the students and I was told by the sales manager that they had no choice but to put single patrons within the areas of the students due to requests to keep the boys and girls separate. The students were up VERY early ( before six a.m.) and were again noisy in the halls and were slamming doors. We did have 15% taken off our room, but that really didn't make up for the less than desireable night sleep and poor desk staff. My opinion is that this company needs to focus on customer service something lacking here. If you plan to stay here you might want to ask what types of busloads might also be staying for the night otherwise dont expect to sleep and don't expect the staff to care.

“Nice decor, expensive restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

Chose this hotel when traveling with my son and his wife who are from the Midwest. Thought they'd like the southwest decor and cowboy bar that was pictured on the hotel's website. Decor was nice and the hotel had a "grand" entrance. Restaurant was very large and we were told there was entertainment that evening which we looked forward too. Rooms are good, fairly new and clean. Food in the restaurant is pricey but that may just be due to the location and the captive audience one has in Tusayan. The entertainment was weak, mumbly cowboy at the stage, really kind of pathetic. Ended up feeling disappointed, much due to the cost of hte meals.

“It was what it purported itself to be”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

Room prices were reasonable; there was a good dining facility on premises; there was a bar that welcomed locals and tourists. Very good for the price, even during the off-season, mid-week. I'm just writing now to fit the 200 char min.

Room Tip: Grand Canyon Village is full of stuffy FOP's.

“Not so "Grand"”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

I hike the Grand Canyon every year with a group (usually 15-18 ladies). Part of our trip is to stay overnight after the hike out at a nearby hotel. We always stay at another hotel in Tusayan or Flagstaff but we decided to give The Grand a try this year.

I had booked the rooms a month before and purchased the breakfast buffet as a package. When we went to check in, they said they did not offer that anymore (new iwnership). They honored it for us.

Four of us shared two adjoining rooms. First, the toilet was running in one of the rooms, making lots of noise. Then the TV did not work (it was Superbowl Sunday). They sent "maintenance" up to check but they coukdnt fix it. We had all our gear unpacked but we thought we'd try to move to another room. After checking the new room, we discovered that neither TVs worked, so it was back to our original room.

Beds were comfortable...pillows flat. Shower water pressure was low but they had nice soaps in the shower.

We always go to the hot tub after our hike and we choose a hotel with this feature. The hot tub at The Grand is fine but the water is luke warm. Cold water was shooting out of the jets. I take hotter baths than this!

In the morning, we went to have breakfast and they had no coffee brewed (it was7:30 am). What hotel doesn't have fresh coffee ready in the am? We were the only people in the restaurant. There were no newspapers (not even fr sale). Breakfast was so-so. I was not impressed by seeing wait staff, maintenance crew, and maids busy getting their breakfasts too. Our waiter was getting his breakfast while on duty! What?

At checkout we complained about all the problems with the room and the clerk said he could not make an adjustment on the bill. He got another person on duty who said only the manager could do that and she w not on duty til 11am. No manager on duty? We asked him to call her and he said she could not be reached. Really? What if there was an emergency at the hotel?

They took 30% off our bill after another guest came down complaining that she was charged a pet fee for her service dog.

We will not stay there again.

Room Tip: Don't bother.
