“Pleasantly surprised! We'll stay here again.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

At first glance, based on price and the look of the hotel when we drove up, I thought this was going to be dated, chintzy and probably dirty. It was absolutely not. Quite the opposite our room was immaculate, well appointed (kureg k-cup on the separate vanity, yea) recently renovated and quiet. In fact at breakfast I was surprised at how many people were there, as quiet as it was I figured there were few guests. Breakfast offered a lot of choices, though be prepared to sit family style with other guests as the tables are all 6-8 tops. This doesn't bother us, we're fairly out going, but sitting with strangers first thing in the morning may put some people out of sorts.

The location is wonderful, if you're not in the park you can't get much closer. There's also a little Mexican restaurant, Plaza Bonita just down the road with pretty good fare for a tourist-driven town.

Room Tip: The rooms at the far back of the property have been recently renovated and are quiet.

Dear jixi101:

Thank you very much for taking the time to write and post this review of our Best Western.
We would like to thank you for being so pleasantly surprised at our wonderful property. We have been a fixture here in Tusayan since the early 70s. Every spring we re-fresh and up-date different parts of the hotel. This year one of the things we did was to put in new carpet in all the rooms. We are happy you enjoyed your stay and hope you will come up our way again soon.

Sincerely,
Lynn Mendoza

Best part- free upgrade to Deluxe Queen room, ability to use Best western card from Airmiles, and the biggest tasty buffett breakfast included in room price( for 4 people (wow).

Pool was not open so no review, location was great, staff friendly and hotel clean

We would stay here again if we were to go back to Grand Canyon

Best price- when I called the 1-800... we got the managers special.. website was going to charge for our kids and 1-800 cheaper plus no charge for the kids

Room Tip: Called about a week ahead to confirm reservation directly to hotel and was blessed with free upgrade

Dear happyone69:

We appreciate you taking the time to compose and post this review of our hotel.

We are always happy to upgrade guests whenever possible and that you enjoyed the breakfast buffet so much. Nice to have a full stomach before taking off to explore the canyon. We appreciate you pointing out our wonderful, friendly staff.

Our pool is seasonal as it would be impossible to keep it opened during the cold winter months. This winter some mornings were well under zero degrees. FYI, we have broken ground on a new indoor pool / spa facility that should be up and running by next summer so you're next visit be sure to bring a bathing suit.

We look forward to you coming again very soon. You can never see all of the Grand Canyon in just one stay. charge for our kids and 1-800 cheaper plus no charge for the kids

Thanks again, Heather

Breakfast is nothing special, but ok. Pool is clean and nice.
Very quiet and clean rooms. Very friendly staff!
The hotel is very close to the Grand Canyon.
A little bit expensive for what you get.
We will come back!!

Room Tip: King Deluxe Room

The only good things about this hotel are: 1) Close to the park and 2) the breakfast in the morning was pretty decent. This hotel needs some serious updating... and for 200 dollars a night I would expect more upgraded features. My husband used the gym and could only use it for 30 minutes... very poor quality machines. We were not even there during peak season.. only 5 bowling lanes and always full, so we were unable to enjoy this experience.

Service at dining facilities was nice, but food was not superb. Husband had the prime rib and it lacked a lot of flavor. We did the buffet the next night, which was taco night... and how can you mess up taco night?! Food lacked some serious flavor.

Our room was in the back of the resort, which we thought would be pretty quiet. This was the exact opposite. We could hear all conversations and doors slamming all day. People were smoking outside of the building, with the doors to the building being propped open. This allowed the lovely smoke aroma to fill the hallways for much of the stay. Beds were pretty comfortable, but rooms need serious updating!

If we come back to the Grand Canyon, we will definitely not stay at this hotel again, especially for the steep price. If this is a "Premier" Best Western, I do not want to see what regular Best Western standards are.

Dear Katie J.:

All of us here at the Best Western Premier Grand Canyon Squire Inn would like to thank you for posting this review of your trip and visit to our hotel.

We are glad you enjoyed the proximity and the convenience of the hotel to the park. No matter where you come from, it is a long drive here and it is so nice to just wander down the road a few miles and be in the park. With a full stomach from the buffet, you can last all day hiking and exploring.

I am sorry the bowling alley was occupied so you were not able to enjoy that amenity and hope that did not interfere with your Grand Canyon experience.

Thank you again. Heather

If properties in Grand Canyon National park are booked, the problem I came across, this has got to be one of better places, although I haven't stayed at any others. Beds were very comfortable. Our room was clean. There were photos on the walls of various early adventures people had with the Grand Canyon: circa 1920s. Staff was very friendly and willing to offer suggestions based on what we were looking for as far as the canyon itself to where to find a gas station that wasn't a rip off. Breakfast buffet was included and had fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, muffins, donuts, eggs, biscuits n gravy, oatmeal, potatoes,sausage....it was very good.

Dear AnnaJean11:

We appreciate you taking the time to post this review or out hotel.

We are glad to learn you enjoyed your stay and were happy and comfortable in your accommodations. The black and white photographics that adorn the hallways and rooms are very popular and tell a unique story in themselves of the history of the canny.

We also appreciate you pointing out our friendly and knowledgeable staff. We try to make sure everyone can experience the canyon the way they want. Unfortunately, we do not control the gas prices or they would definitely be lower LOL.

Thank you again and we hope if you are out our way you will stay with us again.

Sincerely Heather

We stayed two nights at the Best Western here. Nothing at all remarkable about this hotel stay, although there was nothing wrong either. The rooms were basic, they had everything you need but nothing remarkable. The blankets were very thin. The buffet breakfast was fine, but again, nothing great. No complaints about the service. Overall, everything was just ok so I don't have anything to complain about, but nothing to rave about either.

The size of the room was disappointing. I booked two rooms with double beds and the quarters were very cramped. Considering the price of the rooms I expected a lot more space.

The bar was very busy and severely understaffed. I felt bad for the two bartenders that were having to tend bar and tend the tables.

The restaurant was very good. I did not realize it was necessary to place a reservation, but we were able to get in after a 30 minute wait or so.

Dear BethanieN:
We appreciate you taking the time to write and post this review of our Best Western here at the Grand Canyon.
We were sorry you felt the size of your room was disappointing. The more affordable traditional rooms with double beds do tend to be a bit small.

We were also sorry you felt the bar was so understaffed but glad you enjoyed our restaurant’s ambiance and food. The restaurant does get busy, as we are a 250-room property so reservations are suggested.

Thanks again, Heather
