“Definitely the place to stay if visiting the South Rim”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

We chose to stay here because the Canyon Park hotels were all full, and we were so glad we did. Those hotels were heaving with tourists from early in the morning till late in the evening - would not have been our cup of tea! The Best Western Squire Inn, although close to the airport we found very quiet and excellent value for money. We stayed in the main block and did not experience any problems with noisy doors or cramp car parking. Breakfast was in a huge room and our only criticism is that because hot food is served on plastic plates, in an air conditioned room, it soon goes cold...but there was plenty of choice and enough to suit all tastes. Our room was very spacious and the bathroom was huge. Large bath big enough for 2 and there was also a seperate dressing table area with sink in the main room. The beds were very comfortable and so had some good sleep. Free internet was available in our room, which was great for keeping in touch with our family. The main restaurant is a little pricey so we used the Sports Bar downstairs and this was great - good food, friendly staff and very good atmosphere. The hotel is well decorated and seems to cater for all. We didnt use the pool area purely as time didnt allow, but sure if you were there a litle longer would welcome using it. The hotel has an onsite laundry which we took good advantage of - it was very clean and tidy and not very expensive to use. Tusayan itself is a very small town with a couple of other hotels, a couple of steak houses, McDonalds, general store, visitor centre and a cinema for viewing Canyon history. It is close enough to the Canyon not to take many minutes to the main attractions but far enough out to give you peace and quiet. There are free buses that go around the South Rim from the visitor centre and these are great for getting around, and save your own driving. The Canyon speaks for itself no matter what time of year you travel....so if you havent been and you are thinking of somewhere to stay, try out the Best Western Squire Inn as sure, like us, you wont be disappointed.

We stayed at the Squire Inn for 3 nights during a trip round the parks. Basically, it did what we needed.

The hotel is one of the first you encounter driving into Tusayan. It’s in easy walking distance of the middle of the town, not that there is much to Tusayan itself. Its main selling point is its proximity to the Canyon (about 20 minutes to the Visitor Center by car).

The room was a fair size, and the furnishings, while basic in style, were decent quality, clean and looked in fairly good condition. Unusually for an hotel at this grade, we also had a room safe available to us. The bathroom was not huge, but contained what we needed. The only thing which let it down a bit was the bath itself, which looked a bit tired and in need of an upgrade, although it was again kept clean.

Breakfast was a bit basic – it reminded me of a school dinner hall. That said, the choice was OK, and the food was reasonable quality, although some of the hot items did tend to cool down while they were out on the buffet. We didn’t eat in the restaurant at night, so can’t comment on that.

The staff were friendly and helpful, especially the concierge and the folk in the hotel shop.

The hotel is not exactly quiet in the morning. We were woken between 5.30 and 6 by slamming doors, presumably people going to watch the sunrise at the Canyon. Any attempt to sleep in would be frustrated by the hotel staff, who seemed to start working round the rooms about 7-7.30, or the sightseeing flights to the Canyon, since the hotel is right under the approach to the airport and very close to the runway. In fairness, these would probably apply to every hotel in the town.

I couldn’t say the place is great value for money, but then you are paying for the location. We found it a good base for visiting the Grand Canyon, and would not hesitate to stay there again. Recommended.

Room Tip: Didn't notice a lift in our block.

Only reason I'm not giving excellent score is because fridge in our room was not working, plus the coffee maker was dirty. Everything else was excellent! We had the jacuzzi room which was great and breakfast in the morning is awesome, good variety. Hotel decor is very nice, however parking space is little challenging. Pool is nothing spectacular.

Despite the price, we decided to stay here because of the proximity to the Grand Canyon and we were pressed for time. The common areas in the main lodge were fantastic- lovely decor and large. Unfortunately when we were there, the cafe was closed for dinner and we did not want to spend the money in the main dining room nor did we want that much to eat. Breakfast was all one could wish for and they did well to keep the tables cleaned for the horde of people coming in for breakfast. Very busy hotel, but our room was quiet. No internet service in the room. Got an explanation that they were upgrading, but internet available in the lobby. After seeing the common areas in the main building we were a little disappointed in our room. It was small and a bit cramped. Not what I would have expected for the price. If we had been there longer and could have made use of the other facilities it may have been worth it , but that is why I rated very good instead of excellent.

I started off wanting to stay in the Park. So glad we didn't. This hotel was the best in town and far better than the lodges in the park that were surrounded by tourists and far from restful. Our room was generous, the staff were excellent. We dined in the restaurant both nights of our stay and had some of the best, and reasonable, food for all our 3 weeks in the US. The breakfast, included in our rate, was generous with plenty of variety. If you're visiting the Grand Canyon South Rim, this is the place to stay

Big clean typical bums in bed hotel, nice staff and perfect for the Canyon, Food was hit and miss and on the whole a nIce place and nice people.

Try and have a room facing away from the main entrance and the road and car parking noise can wake you for those late arrivals.. The helicopter ride was wonderful.

Our stay started poorly when we realized that I had made reservations for the wrong dates (Weds, Thurs, instead of Tues, Weds). Manager on duty that night (Beth?)could not have been more helpful. There were no rooms left and it was 8pm when we arrived. She checked with the other hotels around, and not surprisingly, there was nothing left in town. We asked if she knew of any other options and she not only located a room for us in Williams, she registered us so that all we had to do was stop at the desk in the other hotel and pickup the key and sign for our charge. We came back the next day and found our room to be spacious and comfortable. Small outdoor pool. Airport almost next door had us concerned about sleeping, but since these were tourism helicopters, air activity ceased at sundown and didn't begin again until almost 8 the next morning. Convenience of being so close to the Park was great. Pretty good hot breakfast buffet (except for the cold toaster waffles). Altogether an enjoyable stay. Would recommend to my friends.
