“A good stay minutes outside of the park”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2011

We were unable to book a hotel within Grand Canyon National Park, which books up a year in advance (we only booked a few months in advance) so our second choice was to book a hotel right outside the entrance in nearby Tusayan. The Best Western Grand Canyon Squire Inn is a good hotel for what it is - a very conveniently located, typical Best Western 3 star experience. We would have preferred to stay in the park for reasons like seeing the sunrise, sunset and being able to enjoy the national park experience outside of the regular park hours, but at the end of the day, it was a very short drive from the hotel to the park and we had a good experience at the hotel, so we had no real complaints.

While the price we paid is a bit much considering this hotel is really just a 3 star place, this is completely understandable due to its fantastic location just a few minutes' drive away from the main entrance of the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park and the relative scarcity of lodging in this area. That said, while the price was a bit higher than any other Best Western in regular locations would have charged, we were happy with our experience here.

Firstly, the rooms themselves are spatious and clean. The beds were a bit too soft for our tastes, but that's a matter of personal preference. The hotel itself is a huge building and while not stunning to look at, it's in good shape and clean.

The service was pretty good, and the breakfast buffet was good too - a typical full American breakfast. The hotel restaurant was good - we had 3 dinners there (we stayed for 3 nights and there aren't a lot of restaurants in the area) and were happy with each one. The dinner prices are very reasonable, the quality surprisingly high and the service good.

Anyway, if you can't book lodging in the park, I'd definitely recommend the Best Western Grand Canyon Squire Inn!

We were given a room away from the main building (lobby) and internet connection signal was very poor, thus we couldn't connect at all. Room is very spacious and clean. Breakfast is excellent. Only problem was the aircond unit was very loud when it comes on. Not a good hotel for light sleepers. Walls are very thin too. Able to hear the next room's shower. Remember to ask for a room in the main building if internet is important to you. Location is convenient to the Grand Canyon, about 15 mins drive to the visitors center. Many restaurants nearby.

As previously stated by other travelers, the hotel is ideally located- a quick drive into the park. Our room was large and well appointed with a very comfortable bed and nice amentities. Priced a bit high for what it is but was competitively priced with other hotels in the Tusayan area.

Hotel is not five star. At the same time, it was quite adequate for being in the middle of nowhere. Remember, it is located at the entrance to the Grand Canyon, in the middle of nowhere. So don't expect five star. What you can expect is a clean room and all the basic services of any three star hotel. There are several restaurants located within walking distance, all adequate. Pick this hotel if you want to be 2 miles from the Canyon entrance. My only complaint is it is a bit pricey, but you are paying for the location to the canyon. I would certainly stay at this hotel again.

If your in town this is a good choice of place to stay. Dated buildings but recent modernisations compensate generally. Comfortable and convenient. Pillows a bit too soft bot otherwise good bedding. Renovations underway whilst we stay but inconvenience is limited. Breakfast is functional only.

I went with my husband and we stayed two nights in this hotel. It is about 7 miles away from the Grand Canyon rim. The room we had was in the main building and was HUGE! We even had a couch, microwace and fridge. The bathroom had a full-size tub that was inviting us to take a bath. I loved the breakfast buffet that is included in the nightly rate. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone wanting to explore the Grand Canyon.

Room Tip: Ask for a third floor room in the main building.

Everyone, this really is the best place to stay when visiting the Grand Canyon. Take a look at the century-old accomodations IN the park & you'll run to this place! Loved the architecture....the sculptures, the displays, the canyon "wall". The breakfast is WONDERFUL (except for the yogurt container that you SPOON into your plate. Pretty gross!) Nice staff, gorgeous piano--have the kids bring their piano books, & great mini-bowling alley!
******IMPORTANT TIP--You MUST bring your own soap, shampoo, & conditioner. There are NO mini, travel sizes here. There are only large, ANCIENT, dispensers that are refilled! No plastic bag inserts to prevent mold from building up, either. EXTREMELY GROSS!!!
Found it VERY strange that I didn't read about this before leaving for our trip--April 20-27.
Anyway, I survived by buying those items at the gas station! LOL!!!!

Enjoy the Canyon! It is magnificient!!!!!!!!
