“Cozy & Comfy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

We stayed here one night after driving from Vegas in January. We arrived in the evening to snow covered grounds very tired. The check in was seamless, the staff were friendly, we had a room that opened right into the atrium area where there was a cute hot tub with a small waterfall. The room was basic but clean, the concierage was extremely helpful and all the staff were friendly and helpful. There is a small sitting area in front of a fireplace, gift shop, restaurant with a buffet breakfast and I believe a pool but we didn't ever find or use it.

“Do not stay here, expensive and run down rooms”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013 via mobile

After traveling 250 miles with our two small dogs we check in to find out we must pay a $50 nonrefundable deposit for our dogs. All that was listed on travelocity was that the hotel was pet friendly, but since we reserved thru travelocity and prepaid we could not cancel without losing our money, so we had to pay the $50. In addition if you have pets you are placed in a select set of rooms on the first floor that are very rundown (peeling paint, doors are hard to shut, hot water is only luke warm, carpet has probally never been shampooed, tv is old and very limited number of channels). Cost of food in area is very very high. Buffet here are hotel is plain buffet but $24 / person also no breakfast included in price paid for room.

If at all possible stay some where else.

“Well priced, convenient & covered basics fine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013 via mobile

Perfect for stopover for one night to pay quick visit to the Grand Canyon. We had a room with 2 double beds for our family of 4. Balcony overlooked spa which would've been great had it been warmer. Bar area next to spa looked like a good spot to relax in good weather. Bathroom fine. We were however on 3rd floor and only stairs so bit of a difficulty to lug gear to room in freezing cold & seemed unnecessary with mostly empty hotel.

“Good for a quick stop over”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013 via mobile

Okay, so I read most of these awful reviews about the canyon resort plaza whilst I was unpacking my things at the canyon resort plaza. For $85 for one king bed room for a night, I was happy as long as the bed was clean and the doors locked. We walked over the road and had a mediocre meal at the steak house (because the reviews about the resort buffet scared me off the dinner here). After a few cocktails we ran back over the road jumped into the outside spa bath. Amazing but over the top chlorine.

Then I ripped back the covers two layers too much and found random crumbs and some hairs on the bottom sheet - it was like the sheet had just been turned over. But I'm on the clean side so I don't particularly care that much. You get what you pay for.

“Warm and inviting hotel at the Grand Canyon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

We visited the Grand Canyon in December 2012 and stayed at the Canyon Plaza Resort for 2 nights while we visited the South Rim. The rooms were very clean, very comfortable, and spacious. The lobby was cheerily decorated for Christmas and holiday music played through the hotel during the day. The fireside sitting area was a treat. Considering it was well below -15 degrees at night while we were there, the warm and comfy room was an inviting respite from the cold for our family of 4 from Cajun Country in the Deep South. One of the ladies in the gift shop was kind enough to recognize one of the members of our party as military and she discounted our purchases. She was very friendly. I read many reviews warning me away from the breakfast buffet. While it was pricey and certainly not the best I've ever had, it was no more pricey than the McDonald's across the street and had the added convenience of being right in the hotel, thereby keeping us out of the -4 degree weather (it had "warmed up" by the time we got ready for breakfast. Overall, I was satisfied with it in comparison to our experience at McDonald's. Canyon Plaza resort was a great place to stay as it was very close to the entrance of the park. I am pretty paranoid about unclean hotel rooms and I had no complaints here. Our room was clean and updated. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and the price paid for the room was worth the stay. Tourists beware...do NOT eat in Tusayan/Grand Canyon Village. It didn't matter where we ate...the food was terrible and expensive. For instance, this was the one and only time in my life I've ever spent $46 on breakfast at a McDonald's for a family of 4 with average appetites. Believe me, they know they have you out in the middle of nowhere and take advantage. The businesses should be truly ashamed of the price gouging. From the convenience stores to the fast food, buyer beware. Bring any snacks ahead of time and gas up before you get there. OMG, I could not believe the prices in this town. I'm a well seasoned Disney vacationer. Disney had nothing on the Grand Canyon in regard to price. Your best bet is to plan to eat at the lodges in the park. The food in the park was quite good. I would do breakfast, lunch, and dinner at either Bright Angel or El Tovar. You can't lose with either of those.
