“Other places for better value in the area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2011

During our long trip, a couple people told us that this Hotel is a good place to stay at while in San Pedro. It is supposedly a little more expensive than other accomodations in the same area, but it should offer great views of the lake and nice rooms. After almost a month of travelling only in budget accomodations (<$15), we have decided to spend a little more to enjoy nice two nights in San Pedro. After check-in, we found ourself in a nice, bright, comfortable room with good looking paintings at the wall. Before going to bed, after unfolding the sheets, the good mood suddenly chanced to a big disappointment - finding out that the sheets were full of hair, probably by the previous guest. After complaining, we got new sheets (we put on ourselves), and they apologized that "the room maid wasn't in today".
The views are nice, but basically only show the bay of San Pedro, not the whole lake.
Anyways, for the price we paid, we would have expect at least a clean, nice room.
We checked out after 1 night and found a room at a hotel across the steet - also had a good view, only half price.

Room Tip: Prefer rooms on the 3rd floor.

We looked at about ten places in San Pedro before finding the gran sueno, ( from the Pana dock turn left on main street, it's across from the taco place on the right). It was the cleanest out of all the places we looked at. Tv, clean showers, lots of plugs, a bedside table and lamp!, and free drinking water. We stayed here for a week and came back for another week in November. Managed to them down to 100q for two people, usually I believe it 175q.

I stayed at the gran sueno for 6 nights and I can't say enough about the warm and gracious host: Nicolas, Rosalina and another member of the family who's name escapes me. They make you feel welcome and are willing to accomodate many of your needs in a kind, generous fashion.

The hotel itself is right near the docks where the first bars/restaurants and travel services are located and a short 3-5 minute walk to the more trendier area of San Pedro. Given that San Pedro is so small, location was never an issue andyou'll find yourself constantaly bouncing back and forth between these two areas and perhaps, the town center.

However, it is Gran Sueno's location of being right by the lake, that affords killer views of the lake and the mountainside -- but you need to get rooms, 8, 9, or 11 to enjoy this. And you may not notice this during your stay, but you are also welcome to the rooftop on the 4th floor. DO NOT MISS ThIS. Gran Sueno is the tallest building at the base of the lake so you get a magnificent, if not the best vista, of the entire town. Bring your camera, breakfast/lunch, and perhaps a swim suit if you're looking to tan. And then enjoy.

The rooms itself are compact but very nice for the price. You get a private bathroom with good hot water and there's wifi along with cable tv that shows a lot of American movies and shows. The hosts keep the rooms clean but I did notice a notsogood odor from the pillows, and the towels were a bit frayed. It didnt bother me since I used my t-shirt as a pillow case and I always bring my own towel. Those were about the only negatives of this establishment,

And for basically $10 a night, you cant complain at all--for the amenities, the view, the location, the price, and the warm hosts, I do think this is one of the best housing options in San Pedro.

Stayed here for 2 nights in a private room with two double beds. At first he tried charging 100q pp but got it down to 60q pp (which is still quite expensive for San Pedro. Room was very nice and clean. It had a view of the lake aswell as private bathroom and cable tv. Only 6 rooms in total so there was no real noise.
