I was traveling with a group of North Americans and this was one of the places identified as safe for our delicate stomachs, and it turned out to be my favorite. Try the cilantro soup! And the tipico breakfast. It was all delicious and new to my happy palate.
In addition to the lovely, comfortable, and welcoming garden atmosphere mentioned by others, the owner and staff treated me like a friend. It's true that it takes a bit longer than you might expect to get your food, but somehow, it wasn't a hardship to sit in that lovely environment a few minutes longer.
One day, I didn't leave enough time for lunch so I stopped in and explained, asking what I could order that would be quick. They suggested chicken quesadillas and they, too, were delicious... and I was in and out in 15 minutes.
They are also committed to the community. The talented chef responded to a request by a local community group to provide training on hygienic food preparation for visitors from North America. I particularly appreciated that, being one of those North Americans.
One more thing - be sure to check out the beautiful and fun artwork - the poles of stacked teapots and cups, and the beautiful table mosaics. Cafe la Puerta provides a feast for all your senses.
