“A feast for all your senses”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

I was traveling with a group of North Americans and this was one of the places identified as safe for our delicate stomachs, and it turned out to be my favorite. Try the cilantro soup! And the tipico breakfast. It was all delicious and new to my happy palate.

In addition to the lovely, comfortable, and welcoming garden atmosphere mentioned by others, the owner and staff treated me like a friend. It's true that it takes a bit longer than you might expect to get your food, but somehow, it wasn't a hardship to sit in that lovely environment a few minutes longer.

One day, I didn't leave enough time for lunch so I stopped in and explained, asking what I could order that would be quick. They suggested chicken quesadillas and they, too, were delicious... and I was in and out in 15 minutes.

They are also committed to the community. The talented chef responded to a request by a local community group to provide training on hygienic food preparation for visitors from North America. I particularly appreciated that, being one of those North Americans.

One more thing - be sure to check out the beautiful and fun artwork - the poles of stacked teapots and cups, and the beautiful table mosaics. Cafe la Puerta provides a feast for all your senses.

“Food is delicious, cold beer and beautiful gardens”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

Just wonderful stop to have lunch in the garden under a blue sky, with tasty food and a cold beer. The service is slow but don´t mind it and just relax and chill in the tranquility setting.

“Care, care, care - a San Pedro delight”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

These folks care and it shows: Caring service, food that is prepared with care - and it clearly tastes like it, and care in creating a nice setting - a lovely garden and patio. Even when they set up your meal on the table, it is done with care!

Great mix of Guatemala and international options for breakfast and lunch.

Highly recommended on all counts.

Good food and tranquility feet away from the chaos. We had rooftop lunch a few feet from buddah bar.

“Beautiful setting, excellent food, they obviously care”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

Cafe La Puerta is an excellent bet for daytime meals. The food is really good and reasonably priced and the setting is amazing. You can sit in a covered area beside the gardens or order and go up to a rooftop terrace with views of the lake. They will bring the food. There are also a series of individual seating areas on the way down to the lake, although they aren't always open.
Breakfasts are great, and you can choose Guatemalan or gringo versions. I had the eggs, bacon and potatoes, which came with really good house-baked three-grain bread and obviously homemade perry preserves. Lunch was equally good, and the menu is diverse.
Staff dress in traditional clothes and are friendly and very professional.
There are lots of places to eat in San Pedro, but you should definitely have a meal here early on in your stay - odds are you will be back.
