“Great rooms and best staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2012 via mobile

Stayed here for 2 nights and it was wonderful. The 170 steps up to our room at first was a shock but we got used to it quick. The rooms are beautiful with an outdoor shower. Wonderful hot shower with perfect pressure. No mosquitoes too so it was great. Only disappointing thing is that there isn't a view of the volcanoes. You can only see them at the outdoor lounge area by the dock. Love what they are doing here with going green. The last boat to get here is at 5pm so dinner options are limited to the restaurant there. It's a 3 course dinner costing 100Q but simply beautiful and worth it. The reception area/lounge has an open fire and it's a great place to have a night cap or cozy up with a book. Blankets are also available everywhere. Also there are these beautiful vines off the ceiling with flowers hanging down at the lounge area and dining balcony. Amazing. Best thing possibly is the friendly staff. I was sick on my 2nd night there and the way the cared for me with tea and the right food, nursedr back to health straight away. Would definitely stay here again!

We were blown away with everything about this place.
The view from our lovely little cabin was breathtaking. Watching the sun rise and set over the lake and volcanoes every day was incredible. The food was absolutely delicious and we ended up eating here everyday so we didn't miss out!
The staff were really friendly and welcoming. We loved the secluded location of our cabin and enjoyed climbing up the stairs through the beautiful garden to get to it.
If you love nature and peaceful remote settings and you have an adventurous spirit you will love this place!

Room Tip: The higher cabins have great views but less athletic visitors might prefer a cabin lower down as the...

Not many people succeed in designing/managing a Hotel like IslaVerde, I've worked for human resources in great hotel areas and have never found such skilled and considerate work team. Yes indeed, IslaVerde has a lovely lake view, great yoga venue and serves amazing food, yet what really makes this place special, is each one of those working to make this dream happen, they'll just make you feel better than home. The eco-lodge allows you to be one foot in wilderness and keep one foot in contact with reality, as SantaCruz is just one boat stop from Panajachel, but also being the only terrestrially incommunicated town in the area. Don't miss the chance to visit, it'll make you consider stay for good at the Atitlan lake.

Isla Verde in Lago Atitlan was our last stop on a long and tiring road trip following the Maya archeological sites. It is the perfect setting to take time for slow cooked food, massage, reading, kayaking and contemplating the remarkable view of the lake. Isla Verde is a small and unasuming small hotel by the lake. If you want to take a shower amisdt orchids and tropical vegetation your private bathroom will offer an unrepeated experience. All the staff members are friendly and professional, I think Juliana does a wonderful job at making you feel at home.

Room Tip: If you don't mind a short hike to get to a high cabin, the view is worth it. If you prefer a po...

Got to be in good physical condition to hike up the hill to your casita, but the views from up there are worth it. They serve food there and it's good. Never got sick after the fresh fruit and licuados. Had a wonderful beet soup there one night. Food is served on a deck right on the lake. Yes, it's slow food, but what else have you got to do except sit back and enjoy the views, the music and your companions while you wait for your meal?

I loved this place -- fresh food grown in the garden and prepared deliciously, treehouse-like rooms with solar showers and adorable wood finish, lots of little outdoor nooks and resting spots to hide out in and read books, and of course the magical Lake Atitlan as its front yard. There's a shared computer in the lobby that works and is really just the right amount of "plugged in"-ness that I wanted during my time here.

The rooms and view are great.
The yoga is wonderful.
The service is slow and the food/extra charges are expensive.
Although the room prices are reasonable, there are many other fees and steep food prices to consider.
