We stayed at this place for a couple of nights during our honeymoon. It was definitely one of the highlights of our trip, worth every penny.
The rooms were spacious and spotlessly clean, the food was good, the views (from the beds and the balconies) are simply breathtaking, surely the best in the lake, the service – both Thierry and the local people – very welcoming, friendly and helpful.
Watch out the steps (a steep climb for anyone) and the cost of the water taxi if you get here late.

This was one of the highlights of our recent trip to Guatemala. I had high expectations and the hotel exceeded them! The view was amazing. Yes, the walk up the 420 steps was not the easiest, but it was totally worth it (and usually I'd put on my swimsuit and go for a dip in the pool to get my heart rate back to normal!). The room was spotless, the staff were very pleasant and the owners are terrific. We were there 4 days, which was perfect.

We loved the home made bread and the great local coffee, with the continental breakfast. On the last day, my husband ordered the granola, yogurt and fruit. The granola is amazing. We took day trips from the hotel to the different villages during the day (easy to catch the public lanchas at the hotel dock) and have lunch out somewhere else. Dinners we took at the hotel. The fish was excellent, and the fries were wonderful - ask for the home made mayonnaise - it's fabulous! We also really liked the caprese salad and ordered it every night. The ravioli wasalso really good. The banana ice cream was like a delicious creamy frozen banana - on our last night, we ordered it with the hot chocolate after dinner.

All in all, this was an amazing experience, and we loved it all.

We arrived at night time, so I didnt really know what to expect, but the lake was as serene and quiet as you will ever see anything in your life. The hotel had its staff help us with our bags as we ascended up the many stairs it takes to get to the hotel, it takes a little energy to get to the top, but when we finally reached the top we could see that it was worth every bit of expended energy.
The hotel owner greeted with open arms at the top and right away made us feel at home (which is a tough thing to do when home is so far away) We dined on some of the most "WOW" incredible food you will ever dine on, almost all of the food is home made, the pasta is made fresh on site, the fish is from the lake below, even the icecream is homemade. At one point during lunch the next day I was wondering why it was taking so long for my ketchup to arrive, little did I know that the owner himself was making our food and he also made the ketchup himself and it was amazing. The reason for nicknaming this place the "WOW" hotel is the simple fact that every time you thought you had seen the most incredible view all you had to do was turn around and you would see another incredible view.
The Staff and the Owner were some of the nicest and most courteous people I have ever met in my life.
This place now has a special spot in my heart, as I will try and save money up to send my parents there for their anniversary.
If you ever have the chance to stay there, which you should make a point to do some way some how in your life you will understand what I am speaking of. you will not find a better more relaxing, enjoyable place to be in the world , that I can guarantee.
It is romantic, quiet, serene and basically I cant think of enough superlatives to describe it , all I could say for every minute of my sstay there was "WOW"
This Hotel and there Staff is top of the line, and you cant beat the price, the service , the food, the view or the feeling that you get just by being there. It is truly magical and I cant wait to go back !
The "WOW" hotel what a place...... Its something everyone has to see for themselves.

I'll begin by stating that our stay at Lomas de Tzununa was a total "WOW Experience". From the moment we arrived at the hotel we were greeted by very attentive hotel personnel to assist us with our luggage as we ascended up about 40 meters or so to our hotel room. We were then received in the restaurant for dinner with a very warm acoustic guitar welcome by the hotel owner himself. Dinner was amazing and the local fish from the lake delectable, I must add that everything from the kitchen is homemade (from the ketchup to the ice cream), so you may want to order the ketchup ahead as it will take a few minutes to prepare. But, the true WOW came in the morning when we opened our room curtains and were mesmerized by the amazing sunrise we witnessed. Lake Atitlan is definetely the most beautiful lake in the world, and Lomas de Tzununa is the best hotel to experience it's wonder.

I highly recommend this hotel and hope to return myself. We stayed at Lomas de Tzununa for a few days in August, and it was wonderful. It is a peaceful hotel near a traditional village, not in the thick of the tourist areas around Lake Atitlan, so it is an ideal place for those looking to escape the crowds a bit. It's a small place so there were not a lot of other guests, but those we met there were friendly and laid back, from all over the world. Maria and Thierry (the owners) are such kind hosts, and really go out of their way to make it a nice stay - and the staff are great too. The views are incredible and the rooms are nice and quite private - good for couples. High-maintenance types might not enjoy the limited electricity hours and the hike up to the hotel, but for us it was really an ideal place. The food is great (the tortillas made fresh over the fire are amazing, and the fish on the dinner menu is very good) but the menu is limited, so it's worth going into one of the towns for dinner if you plan to stay more than a couple nights.
