I was comfortably ensconced on a sofa in a tobacco shop in Antigua, Guatemala where I was attending an Spanish immersion course. A cigar in one hand and a Gran Marinier in the other,
I listened intently to the shop owner (a pleasant German gentleman) as he suggested weekend getaways. At the top of his list was Lake Atitlan and the Volcano Lodge.

It was good advice.

The operators (a Scandinavian couple) met me at check-in with a gin and tonic. Dinner was family style with everybody sitting at the same table. The food was great and the prices were very reasonable.

This place is a real find.

We just returned from our trip to Guatemala and the stay at the Vulcano Lodge was outstanding. Matt provided excellent advice along the way and the family style dinner was wonderful. The view and the gardens were beautiful, as was the short boat ride out to the lodge. My family of 5 was very comfortable in an lovely 2 bedroom suite.

We were introduced to the Volcano Lodge by locals in Antigua and it was one of the most memorable parts of our trip.

The food is amazing, these were the most delicious meals that we had on our entire trip. Terje prepares the meals himself and they are family style which is great for meeting the other people staying at the lodge. I am a vegetarian and my boyfriend a meat lover and we were both very satisfied with the quality and portions.

After dinner we had drinks and wine with Terje who is very personable, friendly and welcoming. He goes out of his way to make everyone's trip is a memorable experience.

The room we stayed in was clean, comfortable and a generous size. There was a deck with a hammock for relaxing with a view of the amazing gardens.

The Volcano Lodge is a great place to stay for any length of vacation. The options of activities range from visiting other villages, kayaking, hiking and horseback riding. Of course the Volcano Lodge is also perfect for simply relaxing with a book and enjoying the gardens.

Rarely do we repeat vacations, but we would love to return to the Volcano Lodge in the future. You will not be disappointed.

This was our second stay at the Vulcano Lodge in the past 7 months and our 3 night stay was even more wonderful then the first time. The lodge is above the tiny Mayan village of Jaibalito on Lago Atitlan. Terje the owner is an incredible chef, serving delicious 4 course meals each evening. The grounds are just beautiful, a very relaxing place to unwind amid the lush vegetation. The rooms are spacious, decorated in Mayan art, and kept spotless. During our stay, Terje arranged for a Mayan shaman to perform a ceremony, it was very extremely interesting. Terje is a world class host who loves what he is doing and it certainly shows. My wife and I both look forward to our next visit.

We had spent one day in Pana, and felt like getting away from the busy streets. After a short boat trip from Pana we ended up at Vulcano Lodge and the host Terje Maeland who welcomed us. The scenery surrounding the hotel was magnificent, and so was the hotel itself. The room we stayed in was more of a palace, and when we laid tin the hammocks on the balcony, we could feel a serenity overtake our body and mind. The food was great - Terje is an excellent chef - and the dinner wasn't just food, it was an experience. Terje is a host who knows how to take care of his visitors.

We definitely want to come back to Vulcano Lodge.
