After doing volunteer work in Antigua for a week, we took the weekend off and went to Lake Atitlan for a break. On the advice of a local, we stayed at Vulcano Lodge for a wonderful weekend.
This place is far from the crowds and noise of Guatemala, nestled in the moutains and surrounded by beautiful gardens. The buildings are new and decorated in the colourful guatemala style, with hammocks and decks galore to view the volcano and lake and just relax. It was heaven to have such comfort, peace and safety.
The food is high end, with a great selection of wine, and very interesting and tasty dishes.
Best of all was the friendliness of the owners - Terje and Monica and their children, who spend time with you telling you local stories and making you feel at home.
I would definitely recommend this jewel, and can't wait to come back.
