I had heard wonderful things about Casa Del Mundo, however, I thought the praises were over rated until I experienced this wonderful place myself. This place is ideal for relaxation. My friends and I spent 2 months in Guatemala - this place was the most memorable. We also made wonderful friends at this hotel.
Tips - be advised that you need to make a reservation by 1:00 for dinner. If anyone in your party is physically handicapped or has difficulty climbing - this hotel may not be right for you.
I have traveled all over the world - and this is my most favorite hotel.
Our final night in Atitlan was spent in Guatemala's most beautifully positioned hotel, La Casa del Mundo Hotel & Café at Jaibalito. Accessible only by boat or on foot, La Casa del Mundo sits right on the cliff face overlooking the lake.
The evening started with a pre-dinner drink at the hotel bar. The ideal position to soak up the vibrant colours of our last Atitlan sunset as it faded behind Volcano San Pedro. Guests then gather at one long table to wine, dine, and refine exaggerated travel tales. After dinner, frustrated by allegations that perhaps I hadn’t ridden through North Korea by yak, I headed out to the balcony, rolled into a hammock and watched the amazing shooting star performance overhead. It was the perfect way to say "hasta luego" to one of the most stunning places I have ever experienced.
I'm no expert with a camera, but photos never lie :)
We just stayed at Casa del Mundo and were enraptured! The place is so well-designed that everyone ends up feeling like s/he has gotten "the best room". Each has its own vistas to the lake, and each enjoys its own special private spaces and fabulous gardens. The meals are fantastic, and the group dinners are an especially fun way to meet fellow travelers. Be prepared for lots of stair-climbing -- helps you to work off some of those huevos rancheros!
