“Great view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

This is one of the most amazing hotels I have ever stayed at, we were here for a friends wedding. They were able to get the whole hotel, so we were able to party late into the night. Everyone was extremely helpful, carrying our luggage up and down the stairs for our arrival and departure. We didn't get a chance to try out the hot tub, (there were too many in our party who beat us to it) but everything else was clean, relaxing and enjoyable. I will mention the stairs only as a warning to those who don't do a lot of walking. Take your time and you will be fine.

For those of you who are star gazers some friends and I were able to get some amazing photos given the low light.

One additional note, they do not currently have a credit card machine so please make sure you have the correct levels of cash when you arrive.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 2 which is right above the main hall. A great location if you do not want to walk...

This amazing lodge perched on the side of a mountain was so worth the long trek to get there! We stayed for 2 night in room 19 and were really happy with our experience. There were 3 of us in the room, and it was very comfortable. Their pillows could use some work, but that's my only complaint!
Food and staff were great, and we spent some time in the hot tub on new year's eve which was a once in a lifetime experience! There are tons of stairs as others have mentioned, so definitely not for the faint of heart. We appreciated the wifi and the amazing views from all over the hotel. We'd love to go back!

This hotel is a gem! It's a short boat ride from other neighbouring villages, like panajachel (the largest), san pedro and san marcos. This place is perfect if you're looking to stay put, sit back and relax. When we got there, we were so excited about the view, space, food, ambiance, scene, people & room that we didn't want to go ANYWHERE else! Luckily, we had spent the prior week exploring Atitlan by foot and boat, with a homebase in San Marcos. We literally spent two straight days at the hotel with nowhere else we'd rather be.

The food was great. I'm both gluten- and dairy-free and they had numerous options to choose from. The staff was so helpful and responsive. Menu favourites include le cacao de mundo (cacao drink with cardamom, ginger, brown sugar and soy milk (or any milk of choice)), pineapple, banana and avocado smoothie made with water and the huevos rancheros with tortillas (breakfast) + salsa piquante. Delicious. Oh and the coffee here (and everywhere else on the lake) is amazing. I had been coffee free for 8 months prior to my trip but caved when I smelled the goodness. It was well worth it.

We had two different rooms during our stay. Our first room, #11 was terrific as it had a private balcony w/ hammock and a gorgeous view. Room #3 has one of the best views, but our balcony was shared. The staff was so kind to bring up food to our room and serve us on our balcony table.

Nightlife is restricted to the hotel, unless you make plans to take a private boat back (~250 Q) to the hotel (public boats stop at 7:30pm from panajachel). The group dinner makes it easy to socialize, however. We shared the jacuzzi with a couple we met at dinner the night before and had a blast.

If you're looking for a family-friendly or romantic experience, this is a great locale. We'll be back!

Room Tip: Our first room, #11 was terrific as it had a private balcony w/ hammock and a gorgeous view. Room #3...

I am so grateful to the brilliant family and workers who built this hotel... on the side of cliff, with a spectacular view of Lake Atitlan... sunrises and sunsets.
Heaven, so peaceful and relaxing.

The hotel rooms are beautiful and artistic... and the views are breathtaking.

The restaurant offers a wide variety of food and beverages, all at very reasonable prices and outstanding quality.
The dinner is served 'family-style', with people seated at a big, long table.
You can choose meat, vegetarian and even vegan.

I highly recommend you visit La Casa del Mundo!
Very warm staff and owners.
A quiet and tranquil holiday location.
You will want to stay here for at least three nights as this hotel is a great location to make day-trips to other towns around the lake... San Pedro, Santiago, San Juan, Panajachel, etc...

Very good value at this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with full lake-view... unless you like to sleep in late in the morning!

Stayed in the Suite room 20 which although was a bit small was an amazing room. Please note this hotel has many many steps and might not be ideal for people with physical impairments. Make sure and reserve the hot tub it is an unforgettable experience. The meal was good but know that it is served at a big table with the rest of the guests so if you don't want to get to know the rest of the tenants don't eat dinner here. Renting private boats to bring you back at night is extremely easy. The scenery is well worth the money. Staff was friendly and accommodating.

All good things mentioned in other reviews are true. Our five day stay at La Casa Del Mundo was the highlight of our Guatemala trip. Lovely views, sunsets, meals, staff, owners, rooms, and grounds. A great place for interaction with other guests enjoying this fantastic place. Made many new friends. The owners gave us what turned out be the best onward travel advice we had during our trip. The staff was very helpful in making phone calls for us to secure our next set of travel accommodations overcoming any language barriers. We loved the food. Breakfasts were perfect with fresh fruit. We had to bring back a pound of their homemade granola made from all seeds and nuts. Every cup of coffee made fresh with their espresso machine. Candle light dinners were magical, with lots of great after dinner conversations. Just a really cool place!

We didn't stay here but stopped in for lunch, and I would gladly go back to stay or even recommend it to a honeymooning couple. It's beautiful, remote, romantic, and immaculately cared for. We loved the food--a generous, fresh fruit plate with yummy homemade yogurt, and my enchiladas Chapín were unique and super-tasty. My favorite menu item, though, was the lemonade with strawberry and mint. Order it and you'll see why!
