We stayed for four nights at La Casa del Mundo and I didn't want to leave at the end. It was perfect! The location is absolutely amazing, with stunning views of Lake Atitlan and the volcanoes from all over the property. The rooms were lovely and all had their individual style, the customer service was faultless, the food amazing (great range and great prices, with the communal candlelit dinners being a highlight for me) and all credit to the garden staff who keep this place looking like the garden of Eden. Sublime!
Aside from taking a kayak out on the lake and having to take a water taxi to go and get cash out, I didn't leave the property during my whole stay, and I could easily have spent four times as long there. It is the absolutely perfect place to relax and switch off from the world, whilst still having wifi access if you want it. Go there - it will be a highlight of your time in Guatemala for sure!

I have only been in one other hotel in my longish life whose location and accomodations I have liked this much. I could not take my eyes off the view from our window. I loved our not large but rustically and appropriately furnished room, with a stone wall with a large window and portholes as well, showing the lake and mountains. The value, according to Western standards, was excellent. After teaching weeks in mountain Guatemala, I was thrilled to find in the Cafe (lunch and breakfast) many delicious sounding vegetarian options and the ones I ordered lived up to the description. At dinner, there is a fixed menu with options for vegtarians and other special diets determined in advance and this was more pedestrian but still fine. Hot water was lovely and plentiful (not always the case in these mountains). A few caveats and quibbles: this hotel is not for people who have more than minor trouble with stairs; for others the cliffside location is more than worth it. My husband, an avid kayaker, was looking forward to availing himself of the kayaks for rent--but was quite disappointed in their quality (no seat backs, configuration not suitable for steering on the somewhat rough lake). IMHO the hotel would do well to add a few dollars to their overall rate and resist the urge to charge (asking each time for room number) for each refill of coffee (excellent by the way) or tea. None of these minor things will keep me from going back on our next yearly trip to the area.

Worth every recommendation that we had received, this place was amazing! Earlier in the year I was on a business trip and started talking to a women on the plane who had traveled all over the world. I had told her that I was possibly going to Guatemala and she was so excited to tell me about this wonderful place she had stayed in the small village of Jaibalito. It was La Casa Del Mundo. It sounded like a magical place and that is just what it is.

Upon arrival on a taxi boat at the private dock of La Casa Del Mundo, we were immediately greeted by staff and asked if we needed help with our luggage and everyone from start to finish went out of their way to make you feel at home.

The hotel sits on a cliff right on Lake Atitlan. We traveled to many of the little villages along the lake but this place seemed to have the cleanest, most beautiful spot on the lake for swimming, relaxing, and just checking out all the beautiful plants and vegetation around the property. There are so many little nooks you find with chairs and tables when wondering throughout the property.

The rooms are very clean and well decorated. We stayed in one of the suites and had our own private balcony with a view of the lake and volcano. There were windows circling the whole room so whether you wanted a view, a breeze, or some sunlight you got it!!!

One of our favorite things about the place was the communal dinner at night. For a relatively low cost you can sign up for the dinner at night. They set a candlelit dinner with all of the tables pushed together and serve a 4 course meal that was delicious. This was such a wonderful way to meat all of the other travelers and talk about our journeys. We ended up meeting a family and playing boardgames (which are also provided at the hotel) after dinner for a few hours.

Anyway, I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Lake Atitlan. Whether you want to sit on your balcony with a bottle of wine, refresh with a swim in the lake, or read a book in pure serenity then this is the perfect place.

You cannot go wrong with this property! The setting, scenery, ambience, rooms, meals all met and/or exceeded our expectations. We actually stayed in two different rooms during our four night stay - one near the office and another several steps up the hill. Each was different, but equally perfect in their own way. We enjoyed the familly style meals, sharing the delicious food and getting to know the other guests. The private dock was convient and we had no problems getting around the lake to visit other villages. We also recommend renting the kayaks and taking a spin to see the nearby houses and villages up close from the shoreline. All in all, we strongly recommend La Casa del Mundo.
